How to access steam mobile app with 2FA already enabled?

Ok so this is a weird one. I was resetting my phone and reinstalled all the apps, steam app included. My steam acc is 2FA so i usually enter the code on my app when i need to, but i cant access my phone app this time because when i put my username+pw in the mobile app, it tells me i need to put the 2FA code in it... even tho im locked out?!
How do i get a 2FA code in an app i cant access because i need 2FA code? This is catch22 of 2FA, wtf do i do?

You reset your phone. Your phone contained the authenticator and you deleted it. Use your backup codes. If you don't have them, you'll have to recover your account through Steam support.

Backup codes? what does that mean? where was i asked to have backup codes? where do i put them?
Will google authenticator help? Or is that a different beast entirely?

Its as cheezus crisp said, they supplied me one-time backup codes via the steam support page. entered the first one and i was in. now i have access as normal.

Nevermind i didnt solve it. need to recover it through support indeed.

The backup code is given you when you first setup Steam Guard. You are instructed to keep it safe for situation like this.

But you dont have to. Last time I moved the Steam guard the wrong way, I just installed it on new phone, send an activation code via SMS, punched it in and Steam Guard was setup. I got 7 days tradeban, but everything works fine.

Thats 3 ways to be prepared.

Other 2fa have only one. And often dont tell you to keep that.

Whenever you set up 2fa, first thing is, make sure you get in if things go wrong.
