W10 emoji panel does not recognize chat as a valid text field.
Unless I maximize Steam chat or close and reopen it, the Windows 10 emoji panel does not recognize it as a text field. Instead, clicking or searching for emojis opens this gray box in the top left of the screen: https://i.imgur.com/1Vp6h8x.png

If I X the W10 emoji panel after typing, the text I typed does show up in the chat's text field. My friend doesn't have this problem. Idk where to even begin with troubleshooting.

you can always copy and paste. i've had a lot of problems with emoji's and w10 but i'm still on 1909... sometimes i just google them or go to emojipedia and copy and paste from there.

Can you reproduce the issue I described? You don't need to message anyone. Opening the W10 emoji panel in any Steam chat window that's not maximized is fine. If it does work, interact with the emoji panel elsewhere (like file explorer), then try that Steam chat window again.

Bump because new info:
If a steam chat window is not the active window and you make it the active window by clicking either its text field or the window bar (which you can hold to drag the window around), the w10 emoji panel does not recognize this.
If you make it the active window by clicking the middle portion where you see what's been written and then click the text field, the emoji panel does recognize that you selected a text field.

Works fine for me in Windows 11 using the Win+. shortcut. Try clicking the text panel then pressing Win+. to open the emoji panel.

when pasting directly 🤔 over win + . (point)
you get only ??, but copy and paste works.

The location of the window is also wrong. somewhere in the corner for me

Ah, thanks so much for this. I use win + . a lot to do emojis on the fly and it had bugged me for the longest time not having a work around.
