Game displaying disk write error when installing on sd card
I want to download a game but it is not working and is just saying disk write error. The weird thing is it has worked for me before but now it is not working. I'm on linux btw.

Can you write other things on that SSD?
What file system are you using?
I'm using fat32 which is not the normal filesystem but it works for my other games and it's the only way to make it executable, (I don't know why)

If the file size is beyond 4 GB it will fail. FAT32 has a hardcap of 4 GB on a single file.

Use NTFS or ext4 instead.

Windows has a convert utility, letting you convert a file system zo NTFS without formatting, so without losing data.

The read write lag on SD Card would be awful. I could an issue with USB mass device driver. Install game on a SSD or HDD then copy and paste it to the memory card and tell steam to point to that directory.

Oops missed this. Yes the 4GB file size limitation will be an issue. Linux will see NTSF but for windows Ext4 support is spotty at best.

Generally, exFat is the "standard" for SDcards above 32GB, but I am not sure how well Linux's support for exFat is over NTFS. NTFS has a lot of overhead for something like an SDcard.

Could also be same rule as in windows , you cant have core NTFS then use FAT, security in the files system is not same, and it might be exatly same issue in linux.

and im not even sure if you did fat on core then ntfs will be allowed, ( you might say system core issue with its rights that effect other disk.

so it might not be enough if system on linux allow it, its still a app security in the file system that app cant implemention on other disk, ( this was seen on old system where total war will not install and it took age to figure so many years ago. then such was allowed. ( system simple dont tell you that disk is wrong in format and aient it same here on linux as you mention.

again the other steam linu user here might know better, ask steam linux own group might be better. to catch more linux user.

Steam for Linux

ps.
just because linux can, dont mean app can, i doubt steam will accept or change its security in system files on lesser disk system.

i bet win7 can still format disk in FAT , that functions is not there in win10 or has been removed.

ps.
even steam said dont support windows XP and thats a FAT system, that could effect linux exfat or whatever other FAT system.

exFAT shares the same limitation, meaning it's not a solution.

No it does not:
exFAT supports greater file size and partition size limits than FAT 32. FAT 32 has a 4GB maximum file size and 8TB maximum partition size, whereas you can store files that are larger than 4GB each on a flash drive or SD card formatted with exFAT. exFAT's maximum file size limit is 16EiB (Exbibyte).

I have exFAT SDcards in my camcorders right now with video files over 4GB recorded on them.
Ah, thank you for correcting!
No problem! I admit, it is a bit of a mess choosing between NTFS and exFAT in Linux depending what you are doing.
