Steam Overlay no longer works with non-Steam game (Fortnite) please help
I can no longer access the Steam Overlay when I launch Fortnite through Steam. Before it was simple, all I had to do was close the Epic Games Launcher right before the game booted up. It no longer shows up.

I have tried the following:

Restarting Steam Client
Restarting Computer
Removing Fortnite from Steam Library and readding it through the other files (Binaries, Win64, etc.) I have probably done this method the most, about 100 times
Uninstalling Fortnite entirely, then reinstalling it

This problem happened before, with the Steam Overlay suddenly coming back for a brief period of time, I don't know how I fixed it.

Now it is gone again, and I don't understand why.

Updated Note: Somehow the Overlay works with the Epic Games Launcher, but not the game itself for some stupid reason??

Well it could be a Steam update, it could be an Epic update, it could be a Fortnite update. All three softwares are under active development and there's no particular reason why they must always cooperate like you want.

Epic isn't concerned with breaking the Steam Overlay. And Valve probably isn't to concerned with making the Overlay specifically work with Epic games.

I don't think there's a specific concern from either company to worry over the issue. I'd be surprised if there were. I think it's a, "If it does, great. If not, *shrug*"

Same condition as above.

I can overlay the Epic game launcher.
The overlay does not work for Fortnite launched from Epic game launcher. Sometimes it works. I'm not sure why.
I have tried many solutions on the net, but they are a waste of time.

I have multiple computers, each with different accounts, but only one account. The overlay works as usual for the other accounts.

上記の状態と同じ状態です。

Epic game launcher のオーバーレイはできます。
Epic game launcher

Update: I've found the cause, it seems to only happen when my PC has restarted or turned on after being off when it did work. I have yet to find a proper solution, but I have a theory that restarting it after turning it on and then re-adding to library would fix it, but I gotta experiment a few more times.

I was curious if you had made and advancements with this issue. I've been having the same issue and want to have my controller working for the event tomorrow. Thank you in advance.

Try running Steam as administrator, see if it helps.

Only other thing I can suggest is using SteamGridDB Manager it updates been stopped for awhile, but not sure if it still works but give it a shot, what it does it help make overly work with non Steam games.

Hope it works out for you.

No luck on a permanent solution, but it seems like my theory turned out pretty accurate. Just try resetting your PC if it does not show, then remove from library and then add again. If it works keep it on and the Steam Overlay will stay, until you turn it off again.

Hopefully this problem gets solved permanently soon.

Any difference if launching the game via Big Picture mode?

open non-steam games with .bat on Steam and it will work. you can do screenshots, or you can use Steam client browser.

it doesn't matter what non-steam game is, it will work with .bat file.

Apologies if I don't know something I probably should but, what's a .bat?
