Dualshock, DS4Windows and Steam
I have some questions and browsing around I don't see to find a clear answer.

I have both steam and DS4Windows running on my computer. However, when that's the case, I can use the Dualshock controller on Bluetooth with no issues but only for games that are NOT launched within Steam. If I have DS4Windows running and I try to launch a game with Steam the controller will not be recognized.

If I close DS4Windows, then Steam recognize the Dualshock correctly in Settings->Controller, but when playing, the game recognize the controller to be an XBox controller. I tried to enable/disable support for both Dualshock and Generic controller in Steam, but still it is only recognized as Xbox controller. So the game prompts me hints based on the XBox. Not a huge deal but annoying.

Any suggestion on how to resolve this? Am I missing something?

Thx!

This is just how Steam works with controllers. Instead of making the omg huge list of controllers to select from in Steam settings most controllers work with the Xbox stuff. If they don't they should work with the genereic settings. DS4Windows is obviously not compatible with Steam.

Steam might consider adding supoort for DS4 if you share this with them asking them about it.

If you weren't aware these are community forums. Not official Steam supoort. Use the help system to contact official support.

For the controller to show up Steam-side rename DS4Windows.exe.

Steam only emulates an Xbox controller so enabling configuration support (or enabling Steam Input for an individual game) means the game will only see an Xbox controller.
Games can query Steam as to what the physical device is (or selected as) and show prompts based on that, but looks like that is rarely implemented.

If you still see Xbox prompts with PS config support disabled then I'm thinking:
  • The controller needs to be power cycled after disabling PS config support for Bluetooth connections
  • Steam Input is enabled for the individual game - either forced on or via default setting. The default setting ('Use default settings' :D ) in most cases follows the config support global setting but can be overridden by the developers. Right-click game in Steam Library > Properties > Controller > Override for... drop-down box > Disable Steam Input
  • The game may not have PS prompts, or prompt/controller type is selectable and not auto-detected

There are other things that can be configured DS4Windows side but see how that goes for you.
