How do you move Authenticator to new phone with DIFFERENT number?
Sorry if this is obvious, I have tried googling it and the steam FAQ, steam discussion threads and reddit discussion threads I found all discussed moving the Authenticator to a new phone with the same number, but what about a different number?

Here is my situation:

I had the Steam app and authenticator on an old mobile that suddenly broke with the latest firmware update (won't turn on anymore). It isn't a huge deal since I have been using a new phone for a while now, just never transferred the app (HUGE idiot move I know...). I do, however, have my recovery code (made sure to write it down years ago). Note, this is not the 20 or so codes you get from the "Get Backup Steam Guard Codes" in Account Details, but the Recovery Code you get when you first attach the Authenticator to your account (I do not have those Backup Steam Guard Codes sadly because I didn't even know it was a thing, just the one Recovery Code). I also have access to my email account that is used for my Steam account.

But my new phone number is different (I moved countries so my old phone number is from the county in which I used to live, and new phone number is in current country). As I mentioned, I have no access to the old phone since it won't turn on (so cannot receive texts/SMS and cannot get access to the Steam app or the authentication codes from the app), all I have is the recovery code I wrote down and I am currently logged into my account on my computer (since I had auto-login so it hasn't asked for my authenticator code yet, but obviously it is only a matter of time before it eventually will for some reason or other). Also, I of course also have access to my credit card / bank statements and government ID and all that if Steam needs it.

So... what are my options here and what is the best way to install the Steam app on my new phone and set up the authenticator there? I don't care about any marketplace hold periods as I don't trade at all these days. Thanks in advance for any help!

You should attach the current phone number to steam. This likely will ask for an auth code.
Not sure how it goes. But only if you have your real current number on steam, you should move the auth to new phone.

Phone number must be the real number, first.

Sadly the phone number attached to it is the phone that died / cannot turn on. If I try changing the number it either asks for an auth code or an SMS, both of which were on that phone, so there's no way to change the number. I have to use the recovery code somehow instead I think.
Put the old sim card in a phone that still turns on.
That way you can receive the sms for changing the number.

Read about if email auth guard also could be used to get a code for phone number change. Email auth will enable if you use the recovery code. I dont know atm, so read about that for yourself.

But priority, get your old number working (and then you can decide if you even need to change number)
