Extremely Slow Download Speeds
I am currently connected to my network with an ethernet cable and my computer says I'm getting 1 gbps or 1000 mbps. I am on a brand new laptop with a optane enhanced ssd. However I am currently downloading on steam at a network rate of 8 mbps and a disk rate of 1.2 MB/s. Why is the download this slow?

You’ve done a speed test through something like Speedtest.net, right? Did it confirm that you’re getting gigabit speeds from your ISP?

When I do the speed test it only says I'm getting 10 mbps... I don't understand why my computer would say I'm getting the full 1 gbps and then the test would say I'm only getting 1% of that

Do you pay for gigabit speeds?

I think we do. My family has a plan with Spectrum. I don't know the exact plan.

Using devices, and cable able to handle upwards of 1gbps, does not mean you're getting that speed, as it comes down to your ISP plan.

If you connect your PC to another PC using ethernet cable, and both systems can support upwards of 1gbps, you can move files between both systems upwards of 1gbps. But have nothing to do with your internet speed, as your internet is coming from a service, AKA your ISP Spectrum. Do you understand?

I suggest checking your plan.
