Replace Launch edition with Deluxe?
Recently I purchased a steam key for Monster Hunter Rise: Launch Edition from a well-established reputable site. I redeemed it on my Steam account, never played it.

A couple days later, I found Monster Hunter Rise: Deluxe Edition for even cheaper on another reputable site and purchased the key for that, which I have not activated yet.

Naturally, I had the first purchase for the Monster Hunter: Launch Edition refunded from the original retailer.

My question is... the license for Monster Hunter Rise: Launch Edition has still not been revoked, despite me getting the refund for it.

A) If I were to activate the key for the Deluxe Edition, would that overwrite the Launch Edition?

B) And if so, if the original seller decided to revoke the Launch Edition, would it effect my already redeemed Deluxe Edition, despite it being a different key from a different seller?

C) Couldn't I just permanently remove the Launch Edition via the Support tab and then enter the key for the Deluxe Edition? I feel like this would be the most logical thing to do.

I know it's long-winded, but I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing before starting the correct process. Thanks!

A) Yes.
B) Maybe, not sure. Most likely you'll only get the Deluxe content and will lose the base game.
C) No, it would only remove it from your library, not your account. It's an enhanced hiding feature. You can even restore any "permanently removed" game at any given time.

The A choice seems to be the best option right now, but I'm still hesitant since I'm guessing it won't replace the key of Launch Edition with the key for Deluxe Edition?

I just don't want to end up losing the base game of MHR if the original key retailer decides to revoke that (despite them telling me they can't... so free base game lol?)

B is possible and has happened before on steam, however steam fixed it. This is more convoluted though as its third parties,

Was the original game purchased on Humble Bundle? I just went thru a refund with them and contacted them and it took about a week for the key to be revoked. So if it was i'd just wait a few days to ensure there aren't any issues.

What retailer said they can't revoke the license?

It was through IndieGala. I normally don't purchase from them, so this is new territory for me, so to speak.

The worst part is they only seem to have one Support Admin and she herself is the one that said that... which seems very odd.

It's a tough call, i know if you bought a basic version then deluxe version on steam and then refund the basic version people did lose the base game, but steam fixed it. No idea what would happen in that scenario as its off steam though

Retailers can't revoke keys, I'm actually surprised they agreed to refund a game after exposing the keys. Most sites just tell you that you can refund UNTIL you unveil the key.

To revoke a key, they have to go back to the publisher; I'm not surprised that this can take some time.

They can. Humble Bundle revoked my Elden Ring key after I refunded it just a few days ago.

Now whether they contacted the developer to do so, I couldn't say, but the end result is the retailer is the one that triggered the revoked key, so whether they did it themselves or told the publisher to there really isn't any difference.

Exactly! That's why I asked the question the way I did, cause I had a similar situation happen with Humble Bundle, coincidentally, and they did revoke one of my games I purchased through them. It was due to a mix-up with my Bank and I eventually got it sorted and HB provided me a new key. I assumed IndieGala would follow suit, but trying to get more than a one sentence response every 2-3 days is like having your teeth pulled.

A) If I were to activate the key for the Deluxe Edition, would that overwrite the Launch Edition?

B) And if so, if the original seller decided to revoke the Launch Edition, would it effect my already redeemed Deluxe Edition, despite it being a different key from a different seller?
From what I can see, Launch Edition is just the base game, Monster Hunter Rise. There was a Launch Intel Colab package that included something called Bonus Pack - PC Assistance Pack, so maybe that's what they're calling a Launch Edition??

Anyway, Deluxe is just the base game, Monster Hunter Rise, and a Deluxe Kit that gives you some in-game cosmetics and gestures.

If you did successfully refund the key that gave you the Launch Edition, I would suspect that retailer will be contacting Steam at some point to revoke the key. When that would happen is anybody's guess. However, if you were to activate your key for the Deluxe Edition now while you still have access to the Launch Edition, Steam will only give you the Deluxe Kit from it and ignore the rest since you already have the base game. If the retailer would then come after that fact and revoke your Launch Edition key, you will lose access to everything except the Deluxe Kit.

If I were you, I would just hold onto the Deluxe Edition key for now and not activate it. Keep playing the game as you have it now from the Launch Edition key. Then, maybe, sometime in the near future you'll find it having been revoked, you can then enter your key for the Deluxe Edition and activate it free and clear.

You absolutely read my mind! The more I looked at this way, the more sense it made
