Cant play a Sniper Elite coop game with an xbox gamer

Hi, my friend plays sniper elite 4 on an xbox, he wanted me to play coop with him so I purchased the game from steam, however when I start a coop game and hit the add friends button he is not there and a search brings up nothing, I have the xbox bar and I have him as a friend and I can invite him to a party, but if i right click on his gamertag invite to game is greyed out for some reason, any help appreciated

Does the game support crossplay? You might be better of offposting this in the appropriate game forum.

If you want to cross-play, you need to purchase the game through the Microsoft Store, I believe.
