Disk Write Error
I'm having a problem where a game is due and update, a few MB will be downloaded and then it stops with Disk Write Error. I resume the download and its the exact same thing; a few MB download and then it gives up.

After googling the problem, I've tried everything!

Restarting Steam
restarting the PC
freeing up space on the SSD
verifying game integrity
Launching Steam as an Admin
Allowing Steam full control on Windows
adding and/ or removing ReadOnly privileges
Clearing the download Cache
running Diagnostic scans on the SSD (provided by Samsung Magician)
uninstalling the specific game (Which lead to the game not even downloading at all now, because of the same issue)

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with my SSD, I download games from other game stores all the time with no problems.

This is literally driving me insane and I have no idea what else to try

Just wanted to share. Had same "Disk Write Error" on my Steam for all my downloaded games. Had my games saved in another hard drive in my computer. Going to Settings -> Storage -> selecting the download folder -> choosing "Repair Folder" worked for me.

Thank-you.
Tried this and all my updates started updating straight away!

I just experienced this issue and found the following solved it for me.

Open Run (Windows + R)
Type diskpart and hit enter
Select Yes if/when prompted
Type list disk
Hit enter
Type select disk n (n being the number of the disk your steam library is on e.g. select disk 1)
Hit enter
Type attributes disk clear readonly
Hit enter
Once completed the terminal should read 'disk attributes cleared successfully.'

Try to download/update your games again.

In case this helps anyone finding themselves here in the future. I had a recently formatted hard drive and was attempting to install games on it and kept getting this error. Steam was essentially trying to install the games to folders that didn't exist. So I created a new folder in the root of the drive and was able to install games directly to this folder with no issue. You can do this by adding going to Settings then to Storage, then add a new drive and click "Let me choose another location" and then adding a new folder when the windows explorer window pops up.

i tried so much and nothing helped.
but fix for me was uninstalling steam with "Uninstall Tool" -> right click on steam -> "Force Removal" (it clears steam entries in the register).

Only a steam Crash can screw things up here, with a folders not there. or it's steam librarys index that need so steam can install games..

i had this issue today when i formatted my hard drive from exFAT to NTFS, all i had to do to resolve the issue was uninstall steam and make a new steam library folder on the drive (through steam)

remove Steam\steamapps\downloading.
maybe something is corrupt in there.

disk write errors can be caused by a number of things.

What is your setup? Which windows version, is it an internal SSD? Is Steam installed on the same SSD or is it elsewhere?
What does Steam say about the error in detail: (steam\logs\content_log.txt)?
Thank you! Deleting the sreamapps folder and restarting worked.

I just had this issue with several games. I think it had something to do with my recent decision to encrypt my drives with Bitlocker. Several games started crashing (Atomic Heart & Callisto Protocol). The solution was to uninstall the games and re-install them again. No problem since then.
