Using emoticons autoselects all text

When i type in a message and decide to add some emoticons half way up in a message, like here

the editor box auto-select the text below the emoticon automatically, and i have to "unselect" anything below the emoticon as the box then goes into overtype mode.

Is this a thing that is fixable or just intentional JS code that I'm not understanding the reasoning behind - can someone help explain why the editor autoselects everything below a newly inserted emoji, because the documentation is a bit blank on why it autoselects?

It's not fixable. It always doing like that, even if you type in phone. It's because of the way steam is coded. While pressing emoji it's pasting emoticon ,,code" not emoji by himself. So ,,:" automatically selects all text after it.

I logged into another forum that uses bbcode - and it does a similar-ish buggy thing. I wonder if steam uses an open-source implementation and got into a state where they are unable to merge downstream anymore. Because the AHK forums have a similar kind of problem... but in their case it only auto-selects a single "word" to the right of the new emoji, so someone is not paying their web developers enough. Everyone's experience will differ, but I do find it curious how Steam have managed to suck the fun out of their own platform without noticing it happen. After 20 years. most people rewrite their entire app stacks these days.


Ah well, I'm still waiting for that brand new UI that we got promised back in 2017. I can wait.

Don't start me on phone - the UI is completely effed up on my phone, it's almost unusable an all 3 Bangsung phones I have owned.
