Any way to stop friends window opening automatically in overlay?

Everytime I start up any game and enter the steam overlay, there is always a friends list window opened by default.
Is this the intended behavior? Any way to disable it?

My main concern is that it consumes a lot of cpu resources for no reason in the background because of friends having hella effects.

Exit steam open steam desktop shortcut properties in target path add a space and tip:
-nochatui -nofriendsui -silent
press apply
So it willn't bother you anymore

Thank you but thats not what i needed. Steam startup worked fine even before.
My problem is that the Friends window opens automatically in the overlay when I start a game and press Shift-Tab. Not even sure if that's the default behaviour or I messed something up someday

Bring up your friends list. Click the gear up top and a settings box will pop up. Go to the overlay option and turn off friends in overlay.

Could of sworn that's how I turned off mine. I'm not home I'm at work. I'll have to check when I get home.

Hello. As this thread is relatively new I assume that it's a "stupid" add on last versions as it started happening to me as well.
I ask here just to see if anyone found another way to avoid friends window opening automatically when Steam starts that does not imply starting disconnected, or we'll have to open that window and connect so we are forced to open it anyway, IYKWIM.

in same boat , need that window to go ... permanently , dont have online friends , dont want any ... cant find the way for that window to stop nagging me on every steam client launch
