Why can't we select all message text in chat?

Why in the world can you we only copy text from one message at a time in Steam messaging? I have a block of text from a friend that is about 15 messages in total that I would just love to quote and reference in a reply but I would have to select and copy each individual message. Who thought this awesome idea up? If I select the whole wall of text it only copies whatever your mouse is over. Can we perhaps stop with the backwards progress on this feature?

It is a pity, Steam has some of the clumsiest “features” I’ve ever seen anywhere...

highlight all text L/mouse drag up from bottom then >hold ctrl with c to copy ctrl c
paste into notepad or word or whatever.
