Setting up Joy-Cons as Switch Pro Controllers
I've been looking for an answer to this but I can't find it anywhere. The only controllers I have are Joy-Cons, so I've been trying to figure out a way to set them up. I currently have them set up as one controller using reWASD, but it signals to Steam as an Xbox controller, which is really confusing when I'm playing a game. Since Steam supports Pro controllers, is there a way to set them up in Steam as a Nintendo Pro controller? Or to set up an Xbox controller as a Pro controller? Thanks!

Why would you want to set up an Xbox gamepad as a Switch one?

As for your Switch gamepad, take REWASD out of the equation. Uninstall it, let Steam handle the JoyCons itself.

I don't actually have an Xbox controller, Steam just sees the Joy-Cons like that due to reWASD. And using reWASD lets me use the joy-cons as a single controller, since everything I've read says Steam doesn't support joy-cons. Did I misunderstand?

AFAIK Steam supports those, but as separate devices, not composite. Anyway, why don't you just try? Worst case, you'll get back to your current setup, while having a suggestion for Valve.

I'm playing AC Odyssey, so separate controllers wouldn't work. I saw that there was something about setting up a controller as a pro controller, which is why I wanted to try with my virtual Xbox controller. But I can't seem to figure it out.

Have you TRIED it yet?
That said, nothing you can do on Steam. If you insist on running those JoyCons through an input mapper mapping them to XInput, Steam gets XInput & acts accordingly. This is the whole point of input mappers, to trick the rest of the system.

TRY IT! And if doesn't work, post a suggestion for Valve to handle JoyCons as a composite device. Most of Valve's input mapper is built on user feedback.

I just ran into this-- the fix for me was to go into Steam settings > Controller, and then select the default steam gamepad. Then, in the game's settings, I was able to re-bind the controller configuration to swap out the X and Y, and A and B buttons
