Trouble with Gioteck VX-4 Wired controller

I just bought the Gioteck VX-4 wired controller today from game. When I connected it up, it was listed in controllers and I could scroll up and down in the controller list with the left stick but none of the buttons were working. I tried the full calibration and then the controller disappeared from the list and now shows up on my system as USB Audio Gamepad but not in steam. My system has it listed as being connected, but steam lists it for about 2 seconds and then it disappears, every time I connect it. I want to be able to play games like Destiny 2 but I don't fancy using my wireless dualshock pad as for some reason almost every time I put the pad down I get a message ingame saying the controller is disconnected.
