Try verifying the game files.
Would be helpful to know what game it's for. And it might help you figure it out if you posted in that game's forum. This is the general help and tips section, it's not specific for a game. To get to the specific game forums right-click on the game. A link to it's steam forum is in the right-click menu.
Thank yo sir. I have tried this many times and no luck.
I heard from some people on Reddit it's an issue with Verizon Fios & Steam.
Not sure if Valve is aware. I hope they can release a fix for it Asap!
Verizon DSL internet is a horrible quality connection.
Steam can't fix issues related to connection quality. They have no control over that.
It’s not Verizon DSL, I have the fastest Verizon Fios , Gigabit connection speed which is the fastest internet they have. It’s something to do with Verizon and steam and communication , not sure what exactly..
Even if you're lucky enough to be in their Fiber Optics network it's still slow DSL speeds that barely get to 900mbps. Faster than dial up, yes. But it's still subject to all of the failures of and poor quality connection DSL connections are because that's what it's based from even if you're on a fiber connection from Verizon.

Right. Connection quality is what it is.
So should I get optimum online? Is it better speed and connection then fios?
Xfinity (Comcast) is the best and fastest in our areas. I'm in PA, your profile says you're in NY.
Verizon internet connection sucks. The phone service sucks too. They both are horribly unreliable. I'm switching back to Xfinity after this billing cycle with Verizon completes.

Go to https://www.speedtest.net/ and test your connection. Fios advertises 900+mbps download. I only get 6mbps on a good day. I'm only getting 2.35mbps down and 0.64 up right now.
Comcast? That meter gets pegged like it's going to break and spin around out of control. I was getting download speeds averaging 130mbps and upload speeds around 110mbps from Xfinity.

My wi-fi hotspot from my phone gets faster speed test results than wired directly to Verizon's Fios router by wire. I'm getting 3.84 down and 2.62 up connected to my phone's wi-fi hotspot (Sprint).
That is sad and ridiculous that a hotspot from a phone is faster than a "broadband" wired connection. The reason Verizon is losing me as a customer other than the way too frequent disconnects and way too frequent landline acting like the person trying to call dialed the wrong number or bluntly says it can't be reached. My house is on top of a hill at the highest elevation in my town. There are only few peaks surrounding me that are higher than where my house is. So Verizon really has no excuse, it's just that their connection, plainly, sucks.

Downloading games with Verizon takes almost a day to several days if it's a large game on Verizon. Even a large game like Space Engineers on comcast / Xfinity is downloaded in a matter of a few minutes. Huge difference!

I can confirm it's a Verizon Fios issue. I have connected my PC to my phone's wifi hotspot and it started downloading.
WILL NOT WORK ON VERIZON, Cannot download anything from workshop with Fios.
Is my router or ISP blocking it?? Can anyone confirm any extra details??
Is your cell carrier verizon? Their data connection is probably faster than their internet too.
Like I said neither steam nor verizon can correct verizon's crappy connection quality. The only thing you can do about that is change ISP's to a better one. Optimum is not any better. Xfinity is the fastest, by far.

Good luck.
My cell carrier is T-mobile. it's been downloading at 65 kbps. over 1 hour now almost there..!
I will check if Xfinity has service in my area and switch asap.
thank you for recommendation!
If you're in NYC they definitely do and it will be a night and day difference. Do the speedtest now while you're on your mobile hotspot and again when you're back on verizon. I'm willing to bet verizon, just like my horrible speeds that I'm getting from FIOS, isn't all that much faster.

I checked with Xfinity today and they don’t service my area sadly. I’m stuck with Verizon for now. Unless I go to optimum which I may do..
I've never heard of optimum so that would keep me personally away from them. You must be way outside of NYC. I've been all over NY state and there were Xfinity hotspots just about everywhere. That's a bummer you're not in their service area.

If verizon works for you other than this maybe just use your phone's hotspot when you want to get a workshop item?

I've seen those smaller ISP companies around in other states. Not that particular one but there's one in Virginia and the Carolina's called Spectrum and it's the same yuck, horrible quality connection, verizon is. But it's all that's available to get. Sounds like you're in a similar situation.
having the same issue im on comcast it should work but its just not, 500 down 15 up. this is happening to me on comcast so it can't just be verizon
