Ensure that your anti virus isn't causing problems with the client, nor the game files, as well the permissions.
I'm not pausing the downloads nor is my anti virus doing anything :(. It suddenly started happening since like the last few updates I've done.
- Opt into Steam beta, if already in it, opt out instead.
- Redownloading client files. Head to where you install Steam, go inside Steam folder, delete everything except for Steamapps folder, and steam.exe, once done then run Steam.exe, and see issue resolved.

2) the patching of the actual files
games like DBD and SCUM update a significat portion of their game data on each patch. Just let the patching do its thing. Those games will take time as you ae CPU and disk IO limited
I did a DBD update now and it said it was corrupted. Its possible maybe there's a bad DBD update going out? I'm reapplying the patch now.
the dbd update finished fine, not sure why the initial 48mb patch failed
