I recently downloaded half life 2 and I know there are 2 episodes. When I downloaded it I received Half Life 2 and Half Life Lost Coast. Is Lost Coast episode 2?

Nah, Lost Coast is a fun episode from HL2 that was never finished, but it's fun to play. It doesn't fit in the HL2 timeline. Listen to the comments in the level, it becomes very obvious what it is.

There's Half Life 2, HL2 episode 1, HL2 episode 2, and HL2 Lost Coast. I'm not sure what else your asking.

When you say "downloaded" do you mean "purchased legally on Steam"? Because it's so much easier to actually, you know. Purchase the Orange Box with all of the available games in it already, rather than trying to figure out what you have or don't somewhere else...

Either way:

Half life 2, "lost coast" (if you're interested, it's actually a chapter in the MIDDLE of half life 2), Episode 1, Episode 2 is the order to play them.

Ok here is exactly what I did: I searched up half life 2 on steam shop, I bought it for $11.49 than on my desktop it shows half life 2 and half life 2 lost coast. So do I have episode 1 and 2 and lost cost or just episode 1 and lost coast?

You only have Half-Life 2 and Lost Coast.

You do not have episode 1 and episode 2.

If you haven't played it yet, and have purchased it within 2 weeks, I'd suggest refunding it, and pick up the orange box instead. It will offer you the episodes, PLUS tf2 and portal, so... well worth it.

There are 3 different games, Half-life 2 (which you purchased and comes with lost coast demo), Half-life 2 episode 1 (next sequential game in the timeline), Half-life 2 episode 2 (follows after episode 1 in timeline). If you want episode 1 and episode 2, you would have to purchase them. I'd follow Zekiran's advice if you purchased within 2 weeks and haven't played.
