on steam windows are invisible and flicker
So, when I load up steam, it works. The "connecting to steam" window appears normally. Then 2 outlines of 2 steam windows appear and start blinking rapidly. If I move them it creates an after image and wherever spot I move it to--that spot doesn't respond to mouse clicks.

I have windows 10. Everything was fine when I first started my computer and installed steam. The windows showed normally. After my computer updated is when the problems started. I believe it was a BIOS update of some sort.

I know it is just invisible because if I guess where the buttons are on the window I can see the drop down menus appear just fine. It's just the resting screen that is invisible and flickering.

I tried messing with compatibility settings for steam. I messed with the resolution, switching it and switching it back. I restarted the computer multiple times. I re-installed steam by clicking on the installer wizard thing on the steam website and letting it do its thing. Nothing works so far.

I'm still able to access steam fine through the browser but I'm just wondering what the hells going on and how to fix it.

I have:

Dell - Inspiron 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti - 1TB Hard Drive + 128GB SSD

Same problem here? Just started happening today... Is it because of some recent update?

I actually got this resolved finally. I messed up and didn't uninstall steam all the way. After I made sure steam was completely uninstalled and erased, I installed it again and that fixed it. The problem came back a week after that. I reset my computer and uninstalled and installed it again. It hasn't happened since. It must have had something to do with the steam updates and the updates of my new computer not syncing if I had to guess.
was there some way to install steam again not removing games from library etc. so not uninstall steam completely, i have done it earlier but not remember. I have again this flickering problem

To fix the problem right click on the Steam icon in your taskbar tray icons, then go to settings, go to the interface tab, and set "Scale text and icons to match monitor settings" to off.

I am having this issue, too, but with the last reply's solution, I can't follow those actions because when I try to go to Settings in the client, I'm blocked by the login modal being a pair of blinking box borders, so I can't ever get to the client settings to change them. There's no way to change client settings that I can tell from the browser.

I'm not yet willing to uninstall Steam completely - lot of game data I don't want to lose yet unless there's really no other way.

Hm, I also have a laptop so I think only the one graphic card as far as I’m aware. Would not surprise me if it was a bug with Nvidia, as they’re to blame more often than not. Still very annoying... None of the Steam reinstall fixes have worked so far. =\ Thanks though!

try advance install optopn and make clean install then checkbox is there, and make sure if nvidia controll panel do point at Nvidia as primary card , its in physX with the blue GUI arrow.
some laptop also have bios option to point at right card.

Hah! You were on the right track - I had some extra graphics drivers installed from other programs, and once I went to my device manager and disabled one that had recently been updated (yesterday), I was back in business using the Nvidia one. Steam finally launched without crashing. Thank you!

Unfortunately this solution did not work for me. Applied said setting (turned off scale text/monitor option) and restarted Steam as that's what it prompted me to do. Launched again and Library/Store screens are still flickering. I can access my Library through an alternative view but this is highly annoying. No changes done on my part, fine last night broken when I started it up today.
