Will steam allow you to copy your game files to another computer with the same steam account or no?

im trying to copy my friend's pubg folder to mine to save me from downloading the 20gig update.

can someone help me out? it keeps redownloading the whole game.

As far as i know, you cant just copy the folder, it has some anti piracy stuff that wont allow it to be played. You're gonna have to re-download it.

Just make sure you also get the accompanying appmanifest (acf) file too.

I swear i've tried that before and it still re-downloaded, but i probably just didn't do it right

If you already copied the folder and Steam started to download, cancel the download, delete the folder, stop (not pause) any other download in course, paste the game folder, and try to install. It should just recognize the game files, if starts to download again give it a couple of minutes just to be sure

Cancel game download if it's already in progress.
Fully exit Steam.
Copy game folder and corresponding .acf file to your PC.
Game should be marked as installed (it won't even have to verify existing files)

If you just copy game folder without .acf file, you'll have to click install and Steam will discover and verify existing files.

But you have to fully exit Steam when copying files and download must not already be in progress.
