What happened to Paypal and why move to Steam Wallet?
I am not opposed to change but when you change something that works well for your customer it is very uncomfortable. Why would I want a Steam wallet? If I had a kid playing that I wanted to give him/her funds to work with I could see that but I am an adult and I have an actual wallet lol. I don't want to "add funds" to a wallet. I want to use pay pal. Does anyone else not see paypal as an option anymore?

not everyone has access to paypal, credit cards, etc. some people have to buy physical cards.

if you are not seeing paypal as an option, it may mean that paypal is not an option in your region

You can still buy games with PayPal, but there are exceptions where you would need to add money to your wallet (E.G. marketplace purchase). It's always been this way, it hasn't changed.

That is a valid reason to use Steam Wallet. I don't feel that they should make everyone use it.

the steam wallet is part of every account. as Heart stated, you have to use the wallet to buy and sell on the steam market.

also, if you do a refund and steam is unable to refund to your 3rd party payment, the money goes to the wallet automatically

It has changed for me. I had all my paypal info in my account settings and now I am asked to change my payment method and paypal is not one of those options.

Well you might want to look at the root cause for that. At the moment you're assuming this is a decision Valve made to push Steam Wallet. I think there's probably a bit more than that going on.

Ok so I just looked at the "wallet" and when I click on add funds to the wallet I can use paypal. I am not able to just purchase content using my paypal. So I have to go through the wallet now? I could never get a straight answer from steam

That may be... and I hope that's the case. I just don't know where to find that information.

Have you tried adding a random game to your basket, checking out and then seeing whether or not PayPal is an option for a payment method?

Ok. Let me ask a question. Fist, what I was trying to purchase was in-game currency from Elite Dangerous through steam. That's where I got that "add funds to your wallet" now just for kicks and to test, I went to purchase a game to see what would happen. Pay pal was available for that purchase. So my question is... Is purchasing in-game currency different in some way? I mean it must be.. but I just didn't know this if that's the case

Yes, I just tried that and paypal was available for that purchase just not the one for in-game currency (Elite Dangerous Arx in this case)

Yes, for in-game currency or items in an item-store (E.G. Rust), you need to add money to your steam wallet balance. I don't know the reason, but i would assume this is since you are buying it off a publisher, rather than steam itself.

The reason is so that Valve can protect the game devs from chargebacks and fraud. Which is why the wallet is used. Valve will take the hit for them.

Well, I'm trying to purchase it from the steam store page for the game but I see your point. I just didn't know that was the case.
