Disc write errors with Samsung 980Pro
Setup:
AMD 5600
Asus Dark Hero
EVGA 3080 FTW3
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1tb (windows installed on this) PCIe GEN3
Samsung 980 Pro 2tb (steam library) PCIe GEN4, nothing else on drive

I am constantly getting disc write errors when trying to run STEAM games off of the 980. I can play the newly installed game for about 15-20 mins the assets in the game stop loading and the game crashes.
After the crash I am unable to read/write from/to the 980. I tested this with txt, mp4, png files. I need to restart windows and format the drive after the disc write errors in order to use the 980 again.

Still fails when:
tried running as admin
opening directory security to full control
tried downloading to 970 then move game to 980
download directly to 980
verify integrity (never works before or after crash)
reinstalled steam
swapped the 980 Pro out for the exact same

Knowns:
Fresh windows install
Drivers up to date
Windows up to date
Rebar enabled (actually never tried with this disabled)
Everything worked on 970 evo (windows install) / 970 evo plus (steam library)

Any suggestions welcome.

Only thing i can think is that there is an issue with steam being on a PCIe gen3 nvme and the library on a PCIe gen4 nvme

Perhaps where you are getting the 980s from have a bad batch of them.

Do you have any AV running?

Your description is vague enought that it could be anything, from defective SSDs to mechanical issues or chipset incompatibilities. You might want to try posting this in the hardware-subforum instead.

download and run samsung magician, run the diagnostics and see what the problem is , could be a cable isnt fully seated , you might need a firmware update, could be many things
you can get it from samsung's site or from guru3d

I've seen much stranger things happen as far as "hardware issues" are concerned. Again, without any further information it might be this or any other number of things.

Other issue is check steam default disk or wrong or missing after latest patch but i think they fix that.

check qurrantine folder in av app, you cant write a file that been flagged as a item in qurrantine folder that will be "Disc write errors " you blocking it.

and what up with the lack of responds just because you dont see it,it can still run as task. TSR is a known AV procedur.

this is the thirdtime now someone mentions this , and soon no will reply or help you.
Try safe boot mode, if it works there, then its yourjob to deal with it, gl with it.
