Now if I try to watch a video (Other than the videos on the Steam Store of course) and the client craps itself I now find after I quit it it won't start again. "Steam Client Bootstrapper" and "Steam Web Helper" stay in the processes section of the task manager and "End Process" and "End Process Tree" does not kill the processes.
I have to restart my rig by holding the power button as by selecting "Shut down" or "Restart" on windows gives me a never ending "Shutting Down" screen.
This hard-resetting can damage a Windows system as data loss or corruption can occur meaning loss of files or even the need to format the boot sector and perform a clean reinstall of Windows due to OS corruption. NOT ACCEPTABLE VALVE!!
Steps to reproduce: (happens 100% of the time for me)
1: Start steam.
2: try to load either your own youtube video or a video in the discussions.
3: Steam freezes.
4: ALT + F to kill the client.
5: Invincible processes still in my task manager preventing Steam to be restarted.
6: Power button has to be held down for windows to shut down as the invincible Steam processes stop proper shutdown, or restart from occuring.
Fix your client Valve, this is beyond a joke!!!!
Personally I dont have problem with the gameplay videos under the shops page, but user videos on forum or guides have frozen like a gazillion times.
I switched since 3 OSes, upgraded my PC several times, I use the most superior codecs known to mankind and it still happens.
This part of Steam must have been designed by Bethesda or what
As they don't grab cash with the youtube videos they have no intention of fixing them ever!
That seems to have worked (for now), but I can not fullscreen the vids.
I just get a "Fullscreen is Unavailable" error pop over the fullscreen icon and the "Learn more" says the uploader has probably prohibited fullscreen playback. Switching to same vid on youtube and fullscreen works like a charm.
Has Steam blocked the ability of viewing videos other than the ones on the Store Pages froom fullscreening?
I remember some years ago that fullscreening youtube videos worked fine in the Steam Client.
I have converted my PC into a home-theater and it is annoying wataching an 8" video on a 27" screen from 8ft away.
I'm using the Steam Community via the web browser.
