games launch at the wrong resolution
I'm using an old crt tv with an hdmi to hd component converter that only supports 720p. any way to set a default launch resolution for games? they all open in 1080p which results in static

set your launch options for your game to...

-full -w 1280 -h 720

that doesn't seem to work for most games for whatever reason?

have you tried the config files? like...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops III\players\config.ini

and change it there?

Those command line switches are not universal. They will work for some games but not others.

Each game has a different way of storing the resolution setting. Some have it in a text file and some have it stored in the registry.

If you find where it is stored you should be able to change it there and launch the game normally.

no universal solution then? I have a monitor I can use to get in game to change the resolution, but was hoping for an easier solution. I made an arcade cabinet using an htpc and crt for nostalgia...the crt has been causing loads of issues such as this. would not recomend

No universal solution but if you search for the game you should be able to find where the game saves the resolution setting and fix it.

The issue is probably being caused by your HDMI to Component converter. Post a link to the device.

www.google.com/shopping/product/13740215030130981670 I was under the impression that games would set resolution based off the resolution of your main desplay to prevent this sorta thing...unless they see this converter box as 1080p capable for whatever reason

The converter box is capable of up to 1080p and the PC is most likely reading that and setting the resolution to 1080p by default.

thanks for the help. If only windows had some kind of hard limit I could implement, oh well
