Was Gifted a game - gifter unknown. Can't add to library as it's restricted. Can't refund because it's not my purchase. HELP!

As stated above, there is a €20 game sitting in my library waiting to be redeemed but it will not be redeemed in this lifetime because I no longer live in the country where it's restricted to. I don't know who gifted it to me so I can't ask them to ask for a refund. It's crazy that I can't just accept the game and then have it refunded for being inaccessible?

What are the options here. Is it even legal for there not to be an option for this?

I don't know any solution to this, but if you don't redeem it in 30 days it will be refunded automatically to the buyer

That would make sense, it's still in my inventory though and allegedly redeemable (in China) but it would had to have been sent like over two years ago and seems not to have been subjected to that process.

It's a reasonable bit of money to just be sitting inaccessible! Is there a way to submit a ticket for the issue because I haven't been able to find a ticket request for this exact problem (you need to have something in your library to access the usual routes)

It did not sit without being redeemed for over two years. After 30 days, it would have expired.

You didn't mention it was in you inventory in your OP. I assumed it was sent recently, this way it would have been refunded after 30 days. But if it's in your inventory, I guess it's actually stuck there

So let get this straight, you bought this inventory gift off someone, and they traded it to you. I doubt the person willing to give your €20 back, even if you contacted them.

Also the only option you got is well either give it to someone else that from the restricted region the game copy is for, or you have to go to that region in order to redeem it.

Twenty euros 2 years ago is long gone and they don't care about it. If YOU paid for it, it's not a gift.

None of the stated things make any sense put together, frankly...

Just accept it / attempt to put it in your game list, and either it'll be there or it won't. Unless you're simply trying to say "I cannot accept the gift because of an error in the system - please help fix this error"?

i expected OP to have been into trading at a time where gifts were still items in your inventory (i still have many gifts too in my inventory which dont expire) and i didnt understand it as he wants his money back, just that its a shame its unused in his inventory? (which is!)

Wow guys, so much hostility. There's been a misunderstanding here! I was sent a gift, but the gift hasn't been redeemed (The gift is in my inventory, not the game). It's just sitting unopened (because I can't redeem it due to it being region locked). I don't know how anyone came to the conclusion that I bought the gift off someone 😅

In other words, I didn't pay for it. I haven't redeemed the game, but the gift is still there.

Yes! You've got it exactly right. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one but I'm realizing from your response that gifting it to someone in the area is the only option.

Trade the gift with someone from China, You'll probably find someone on steamtrades.com who will take it off your hands.
