Friend returned a gifted game.
So recently (Jan 9th) I bought a friend "Sea of thieves" they didn't want it, and didn't tell me they didn't want it.

so once I found out I asked them to do the refund process.
they did, and when it came to my part (asking steam for the actual refund) it was denied due to the 2 week rule.

but now neither of us have the game. the game wasn't returned to my inventory, and they are no longer able to play it.

So at this point, I don't have my money, they cant play the game, and I don't have the copy I gifted in my inventory,

Anyone know anything I can do to fix this? I was hoping to give the game to someone who would actually want it.

by following the link above your friend can probably restore the game to their account since it has been over 2 weeks and you cannot return it, as you said.

The game will never be "returned to your inventory" when you've given a gift. When the recipient (your friend) agrees to allow the refund, it just opens the option for you to put in a refund request, but the game does not "show up" in your "Steam Inventory". So that's normal.

Sorry for bringing up a old thread but I'm in similar spot. I gifted a game to my wife , she didn't like it and returned it ... i refunded it along with my copy i got at same time. Both were refund requested together , mine was refunded but her gifted wasn't , we played same min time as we didn't like and less than 2 weeks since purchase. Now here's my question .... My refund hit my steam account but her un-refunded gifted copy .... where does it go ? if i don't get her unwanted copy then what happens to the money i paid for her copy ??? does steam just keep it and kick me to the kerb ? I've re-submitted the refund request also put a ticket into steam with the new refund ticket number. Long n short I got the $$ back from my copy but the wife no longer has her copy .... so i cant access it and also lose the $$ ??? isn't that basically theft on steams account ?

Requesting refunds at the same time doesn't mean they get processed the same time.

What is the current and actual status of the refund request for the gift when looking at your help requests?

No, it's not theft, it's just a cumbersome process.
