I received such a message, but I don't understand how it can hijack the account. I went with the process until I had to sign in (didn't do it obv.)

But the login page seems to be the legit third-party-authorization from valve, how can they hijack the account over that one?

No off steam sites are 'legit'.

Not a one. "Looks" legit =/= actually safe in any way.

They simply make the page look as close as possible to a legit Steam login page. Some even use a popup window so they can hide the address bar and then put a fake address bar at the top.
