Port Forwarding help.
Hi. Im sorry if this is in the wrong place, but im trying to port forward a game "NIOH 2" and my new modem looks different than usual. I was hoping maybe i could get help from someone with knowledge. I dont need to know how to do it since ive done this a lot in the past, its just that this new modem (i have been calling support and the waiting time is insane. I also googled a lot but cant find an answer specific to my issue) my issue is that i dont know what numbers go into some of these fields.

This is the fields:
External Host (guessing this is IP for direct connect to someone? Leave blank i think).
External Port (here goes the "start port - end port" to open. fairly sure).
Internal Host (here goes the IP to my machine/modem i think. The 192.168...).
Internal Port (this i have the biggest issue with. Not sure what this is? A port range wont work).

So its the last one im not sure about. The modem hints at that i can put xxxxx-xxxxx instead of having a dedicated slot for start number and a second slot for end number. The "Internal Port" however wont take a port range so im confused as to what goes there. Super appreciated if someone knows the answer.

Thanks in advance!

Internal is same as external, make it a 1:1-mapping

Not the IP though, leave the external one blank unless you only want ONE specific address being able to access it.
And yeah, use 1:1 mapping in this case.
External Port = internal port.
Port ranges only if absolutely necessary.

As a matter of fact, I am running my gaming battle station in my router's DMZ. Technically, it's merely an exposed host (no consumer-grade network hardware knows what DMZ actually is) which is, in theory, a security nightmare. In practice, it's absolutely fine, if you're practicing basic security hygiene (which you should anyway). A good starting point is https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/07/what-amateurs-can-learn-from-security-pros-about-staying-safe-online/

Short: as long as I practice said security hygiene, I get exactly 0 network configuration overhead for gaming.

you sure you dont have NAT as option in the modem because if you dont then it is portforwarding you need.

im more thinking on what about next game, ( but that just me. )

2 posts above you i wrote i got it to work. I port forwarded although my modem have the option to turn on automatic port forwarding but that can come with security issues so i went ahead and punched in all the info. Never needed to do that in such games like NIOH2. Only if i hosted a game myself i had to do port forwarding. This is just an option in the game to open up to multiplayer and i havent seen anyone else having to do this. That was a bit weird, but it works now. :)
