Disk Write Error please? I am desesperate
I have been experiencing this error for a few days. I first realized as I was downloading TF2 and recieved this error after getting about 10mb/s of download speed for a while. I opened Steam support page and started doing their recomendations. After doing them all (expect the few that I could not understand) I decided to unistall Steam an re install. As I did it I had no results at all except, of course, that I had wiped out all my already downloaded games. Now I can only manage to download small games (I tried it with the game We Were Here)and most of my games are uninstalled. I checked everything I could and it all seemed in order but I still cant download anything.
Please help me and thank you for your time
Ps: I have tried downloading a game in Epic Games and it worked quite well
Ps2: Sorry for my english not my first language

One of the most common causes for a Disk Write Error is not having enough space. Do you have enough space? And I ask it because you say that smaller games do download and install without issue.
Test your harddrive with a tool like HDTune and not with the Windows onboard-tool.

You can also download Diskinfo and it gives you the health status of your harddrive.

Had that once with a faulty harddrive with defective sectors.
I posted this to a similar post.

A disk write error? It could possibly be the Windows Protection flagging the download/update as malware. I just had this problem. if you have two hard drives (or SSDs, or both) and you use one as your main game download location. You can go to:

Windows 10 Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & Threat Protection -> Virus & Threat protection settings (Manage Settings) -> Exclusions (Add or Remove Exclusions)

Click the button and make the hard drive or SSD Excluded. This is only recommended if you use the hard drive or SSD for games only.

If you don't have two or more drives. Then i would recommend excluding Steam file itself where the steam games are downloaded too.

There is other factors if this itself doesn't work. The hard drive itself can be faulty and needs replacing or There isn't enough room in the hard drive to download/update the game. There is a few errors that windows 10 can actually help with and try to fix the problem if it is repairable. You can find this option by going:

File Manager -> This PC -> Right click the drive that the game is downloading too ->
Properties -> Tools -> Click the button called "Check" -> restart PC after finished.

Or you can download trusted 3rd part programs that can help with the problem. That is truly up to you.

I hope this works!
@OriginalFox thanks for helping, not because i mention it, but because you cover the most
dont forget check disk, but then all is good now or rep steam lib if all fail.

But im sure its first part as you already point out.

Ohh and qurrantie folder can also do this. ( you cant write a file that is blocked )

man, this is a complicate topic.

I do only have one drive since I use a laptop so the first option does not apply to me, Excluding steam files, as I have said in my post, is something I have already tried and did not work. As for scanning for errors on my drive I got nothing. It says it is all clear (I used the windows tool bc I don't know any trusted 3rd part programs that can help with the problem)

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work! I have no other options to give as you tried my solution, as well as tried deleting steam and reinstalling. The other option i can really thank of is contacting steam themselves to see if they can help with the problem.
You sure you even have enough free room ( storage space ) all under 200 to 250gb is seen as tiny today with disk that bigger then 4TB even as standard not because i say so , but because game has almost doubl it size over last 4 year

i cant even install all may games on 6 to 8 TB disk. and newest disk is way bigger then that.

ps.
im pretty sure steam will soon make a warning about it, way to many steam userr seem to dont know what is needed or dont know old ways in free space.

its almost dayli a steam user keep doing this.

Well, I don't have a ton of space but I have 394GB of free space, and am trying to download a 9GB game, don't think it is the problem
The you have above issue. and if windows check disk dont see a error then you have a pc issue
because there is no other tool to fix disk write issue.

feel free to use boot safe mode , yuo might have other blocking or thirdpart app doing what av app has been caught in. ( you cant write a file then its blocked or qurrantined )

you need to talk with a tech person , and show him this post.

maybe not all tech person know this, you need a expert in this , its pure basic bad output " disk write error and aV app has been caught in doing it also. ) it should have said virus warning a false positive, gl find other post with this then its under 5 new post to my knowledge at steam.

im not even sure they other helper here have notice it or know other post before i notice it or my time i start help here some go way back, but that dont mean they knew about it.

you need a security experts same time with computer experts and network experts in top of this,
they are not many like that. and at steam even and in this forum.

i think you are more lucky to win in lotto .

ps.
I could have said security app is user own responsibility if that works here.
