Steam Support does not restore items that have left accounts for any reason, including trades, market transactions, deletions, or gifting.
It is your responsibility to secure your Steam account.
you also need to understand that nobody hacked steeam/valve. your account is compromised.
this happens when people get phished and think they are logging into steam when they are not, people give their info to a site thinking they are going to get something for free or there is a virus on a person's computer
until you figure out which, it will continue to happen
I've already done my security, i'm a security freak, this happened during a 24hr period where i had to disable my authenticator, i change my passwords frequently using upper/lower/numerical/symbol a lot, and i get daily attempts at a lot of my accounts even doing this.
Edit: I do wish i knew about backup codes before my phone just completely packed in and stopped working
Are you familiar with the old robot saying: DoEs NoT cOmPuTe
There's really no reason to disable your authenticator. Whatever your reason was, was probably ill informed. And clearly ill advised.
Nothing like a security freak who doesn't really understand the basic security features of the system he's using.
gotcha. sorry about your lost stuff. they used to return items but it was exploited to the point that they stopped
Thank you, at least some people on here are nice enough to provide what support they can and be considerate, unlike the other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
That's like an alcoholic saying they are extremely conscious about drinking.
Well, I understand why you may not like my post (if my guess is right). It is difficult not to comment when someone is making contrary statements about how seriously they manage security but it becomes clear they don't really understand what they're managing.
I mean your claim of being a security freak and highlighting all the things you do, is something people do when they don't like being told they were practicing poor security or have a poor understanding, even though they were just victimized for likely those reasons. I understand wanting to preserve your ego/dignity. But sometimes you need to take a hard look at reality.
And it sounds like your problem is you're doing a lot of things, and that makes you feel like that equates to a lot of security. I don't think that reasoning holds up. Changing your password a bunch doesn't necessarily mean more security. Good habits and strong practices would really negate the need to change your password very often, for example.
Ultimately you should try to take stock of what you're doing and why seeing as how that has failed you. And invest a little bit into some better practices that will protect you actually. It's very possible to be safe and secure, but it doesn't often occur accidentally.
No ones fault but your own. Nothing you can do to regain lost items. In future protect your login details better and and don't drag your feet if an account gets compromised.
The issue wasn't dragging my feet, I had no idea this person had sat in my account for that time, I got complacent and hadn't checked who was in what account after replacing a broken phone, yes its my fault, I'm fully aware of that, it just feels a bit cheated that valve don't have any support for issues like this, the damage could have been much worse, yes, but it's still a significant toll on mental health when its stacked on top of a lot of stressful situations
You are responsible for the security of your account. How the hell is Valve supposed to know it was not using it all this time? Anything you suggest could be faked one way or another.
I usually use this when some suggest Valve put in security to block access to their accounts via different IP addresses or systems. If dodgy phishing sites could use scripts to pull a users IP, Hardware IDs and anything else. They could then use various methods to simulate a users system so that it appears the same system the user uses. Steam wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
In your case you could use various ways to make it look like you are connecting via a different system. Now you're using old system or even a new system. How is Valve supposed to identify which IP, Hardware ID or anything else was truly you?
Bottomline is there is no way Valve can know if a connection of an account is truly the owner of that account other than it getting logged in.
This isn't adding up.
