Hello ! I'm not sure what you mean. But it was a physical discount coupon, it applies a minus % if i buy a game (I accessed the buy page, the coupon is applied as normal). Do you want any other informations ?
Buying a game you don't want is the only bad consequence.
After a research, I found this link talking about steam coupons : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=234547561#:~:text=Steam%20coupons%20are%20discounts%20you,in%20Summer%2FWinter%20Steam%20sales.
Did you actually read that? Coupons are items, you have to trade or get them in your inventory.
There is no such thing as typing in a code someone on reddit posted on Steam.
Link the reddit thread you got the code from because what your saying makes no sense.
Sorry I linked that in a hurry. But while you are right, it is still true that I actually have a reduction coupon on my steam inventory right now. And it seems I can use it the way described in the links ("View applicable games" button, reduction displayed before I buy...)
So what is happening ?
Coupons are given out by dev's relatively often. There is no risk to using them. Often they give out a coupon to people who own one of their games when they release a new game for instance. Nothing shady about it
Yeah I forgot to link the reddit threat : https://www.reddit.com/r/wingspan/comments/luszr1/my_two_codes_from_the_expansions_first_come_first/
As you can see it comes from a physical board game (which i have a copy of myself), and the coupon is a reduction for the digital version.
I don't know if you'll still have something to say about it but, thank you for your help !
Hello, could you elaborate on this ? Is this a regular known scam ?
Yes as previously said its nothing to worry about, you got a coupon and you can use it. Coupons are just items and no one can hack your account or fake them. There isn't anything you can do to protect your account because there is no risk involved with it.
I, and I think many others, were not aware they could generate key codes for coupons.
Yeah that is the first i've ever seen where you can get a coupon from a code, but knowing that the OP redeemed a code that created a coupon is different then how it sounded in his post. It isn't a key reduction code aka discount code. It was a code that gave a coupon and then you use the coupon.
Sorry I kind of cut corners since I was really fearful and paranoid about my idiotic mistake yesterday.
I'm a little more relieved with those answers now, but won't be completely ok before the steam support confirms my account is fine.
Thank you for your time. I'll update this topic if something happens.
