Can't play multi player

For some reason, I can't play any multi player games on Steam. I can't play on hosted servers for any game that offers it Currently playing Valheim, but had same issue with Night of the Dead and 7 Days to Die. I can play the games in single player, I can play other things like Blizzard games, just not Steam games. It will let me join the game, but then instantly disconnects me.

What I've tried. Skipping router, hooking cpu directly in to modem. Turned off all firewalls. Obviously made sure everything was updated. Uninstalled/reinstalled Steam. Not running any anti virus. Computer is used solely for gaming, so not much else on here but gaming programs.

Other tidbit of weirdness, my old computer sitting next to this one can play the games in multi player just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ISP blocking incoming traffic. seen some ISP call it need public ip adr. so people can get into it ( a firewall )

i you cant make a ftp server or game server and get people from internet into it , either they dont route it or it require own puvlic ip-adr so traffic is route into it, they try protect other flat's , it was called campus in the old terms , not sure what english call a house/building net today with flat's

typical fiber into Buliding complex and 1 ISP is in controll of it.

this has nothing to do with can play on other multi player , this is either you host it( own server ) or you are a client. to other should work fine ( unless they have same issue on that isp building )

if this is to complaicet to understand say so, im sure other English person understand network.
if they even want to waste there time on it.

simple ask own ISP or check own login portal at isp or talk with them.

If it works on another computer, your computer is at fault (obviously). So it's either hardware (your NIC quitting it's job) or software (some background crapware cutting all connections).
My personal bet is your NIC, background crapware interfering with Steam usually has other symptoms. So try it with another NIC.

hrmm, I do live in a house tho. I also can get people in to my game (at least Night of the Dead I could), it's just that I can't join other peoples games/servers.

Yeh, I'm assuming it's computer related since my old computer on same network can join games just fine. It's probably some weird process or something running that is booting me, but with so many it's hard to identify which one.

same thing in other end , who said you can get in to a private server behind that campus or house net.

yes i know its complicated, ( its been said many time over decads, security firewall on isp or own router or pc + other side. ) + anti-virus now in top of this , some app has all in one.

do note the diffrence in network issue or own pc issue as reboot point out.
you could say combine with isp doing something in top of this.

Hosting ( server ) is one thing
as client then connect to other is not same thing you conntet to other public server , this is not same as private servers. ( that might have house net ) block incoming traffic. )

I live in a house too B) That said, from your description, it's still your computer that is the problem. I suggest you do what I said above and try another NIC first.

that look like a privat server on other side.

I live in a house too B) That said, from your description, it's still your computer that is the problem. I suggest you do what I said above and try another NIC first.

House comment was for Iceira. Sounded like he thought it might be a common building/apartment issue with ISP.

Still dunno what NIC is tho.

I can join the servers from my old computer tho, so it's more likely an issue with my new computer.

Network interface card. Network card. That piece of hardware that connects your computer to your router, modem, whatever.

I get that thing about common buildings. I live in an apartment house myself, by the way. Renting/buying a single-family-house in my place would be prohibitively expensive and moving out to the country got a certain feel of slow suicide. Having to drive for half an hour to get grocceries or to the cinema, yikes. Or having to actually drive to work instead of essentially falling out of the house door into the subway, spending the 20 or so minues commute dozing.

yes i do, then 2 friends try connect to own server on each other side both can have the problem or 1 of them. ( this is know as Private server and firewall or routing dont get through. )
chace this is ISP issue is there unless multi router dont know other router is connected to other router this is know as wrong network scope and route issue. lets skip that , to compliczted for most people.

ah, NIC = Network Interface Card....got ya. For sure a possible. I wonder though, if it were NIC would I still be able to play games like Diablo and World of Warcraft? It's only Steam multi player games that don't work.

atleast say so if this is a private user you try to connect to and not a games devs public server.
this will end the debat , with ISP or own pc issue.

haha, yeh....too complicated for me. I have taken out my wifi router and connected directly to cable modem just to make sure my router isn't the problem.

Have same problem if I connect to Official Public Servers for Steam games or ISP directly to another player. Same thing either way.
