Steam does not detect copied files of my Apex Legends.
I copied apex legends a while ago from my friend bc my internet sucks and it will take around a whole day to complete a 30 gb download. But when I pasted it on Steam/steamapps/common, steam does not discover the copied files. It just starts redownloading from 7.9gb, which leaves me confused bc the game was updated to the latest.. Someone experienced this?

So it starts with 7.9GB already downloaded? If not you need to elaborate what you mean by "It just starts redownloading from 7.9gb". Where did that 7.9GB come from? Those files weren't discovered by Steam? How is Steam aware of them then?

And just to be clear, you're trying to install the game to the same library location?

Because you didn't also copy over the associated appmanifest file.

Yes. I installed it on the same library location. And yes, whenever I try to install the game, it appears that theres 7.9gb already downloaded, and my copied files were gone

Is it required for copying? I'll paste it outside the "common" folder right?

Yes. Yes, in the Steamapps folder.

The ,acf files tells the Steam client where the game is at, and tells the status of the game, if it up to date, out of date, how far it updated, or downloaded, if it installed, or not. That why the .acf files matters.

If you're going to do the manual cut, and paste, make sure to do it the correct way. You don't want to be doing this when steam is running.

1. Visit where game is at in the common folder, right click, and click cut on the game folder, go to the other drive where you have your other Steamapp folder is on, and paste into that common folder.

2. Now back to the original drive Steamapp the game was at, within the Steamapp folder, look for the game .acf files, right click on it, and cut, then go to the other drive Steamapp folder, then paste it.

3. Once all done, just launch Steam.

If you want to use the Steam move feature, you can do that instead, right click on game in the Steam library, and click properties then click on button for move, and then select your other drive, and wait for it to finish moving your game before trying to play it.

So you had partial download of 7.9GB previously? I would clear all that up first before trying to copy the game and install it.

^This.

If the game was in a state that was downloading already, or updating already, just finish it 1st before moving it.

Although slower, just use Steam's backup feature;
1. Backup game from friend's PC by clicking on Steam on the upper left corner and selecting "Backup and Restore Games"/"Backup currently installed programs." Use some type of media such as flash drive or external HDD.
2. Sneaker net the drive over to your PC and via Steam/"Backup and Restore Programs"/"Restore a previous backup" restore game to your Steam account. Steam will still need to verify files and download any needed software but this should not take too long.
