Need to lower my fps to 30-40, but it cannot be lowered below 50fps.
How do I lower my fps to anything lower than 50fps? Before I could set it under 50 so that my laptop's fan isn't loud at night, but after reinstalling the game, my fps cannot go under 50fps. When I use the command "fps_max 30" my fps counter shows my fps goes from anything from 80fps to 47fps, so I assume it cannot go under 50. Is there something locking my fps at a minimum of 50?

You most likely get the best advice form the regulars in the CS:GO discussion section: https://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/

They're pretty active and will know the tech ins, outs, tricks and workarounds. Also, the FPS of a FPS is a tricky matter.

Okay, thank you. I am new and I thought that I was posting in the CS:GO community because I was just browsing through it, but I guess I wasn't. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the help!

Turn V-Sync on in the game's graphics options. That will lock it at 60fps by default so it's a constant 60 and doesn't fluctuate. There is an option with source games (which works with all CS titles) to make an autoexec file which is a text file we can enter commands in to to control things like that.

Here[prosettings.net] is an article I found (did not read) explaining autoexec for CS:GO.

This may be helpful for what you want to do as well:

In the video he enters a command in the console, running commands in the console is the same thing as adding a line to an autoexec file. Creating and using the file loads the settings from the file automatically so we don't have to do it manually every time.

FYI and Warning: Certain commands can produce a VAC ban. Video setting commands won't get you banned the ones that can and do are the ones undesirable players try to use as an advantage over other players.

No problem with asking - usually faster to point people to the source of the info if there's a very active community. Usually, they're faster.

Saying that Jack Schitt great advice should work great if you're happy to lock it at 60 or go the console command route.

If its an nvidia gpu, in nvidia control panel there's an option called max framerate.
