Steam asking for a verification code on start up and randomly
Hi. Since yesterday's maintenance, Steam has been telling me that I am attempting to log in from a new device (which is not the case at all), and asks me for a code whenever I start up steam, or just randomly. When I look at the location information of whoever is trying to connect, the IP corresponds to mine, but not the location. This has NEVER happened to me before.

I took a look at my login history to clear the confusion, but it's the same location as I've always been logging in from (which doesn't correspond to my ACTUAL location, oddly).

I changed my password and associated email to be safe.

I have steam guard email, but not steam guard mobile if that helps. Whenever I look up this issue, I only see people who complain about steam guard mobile being the problem, and not steam guard email, so this is completely new to me.

I highly doubt anyone got into my gmail account too, I would have received a text with a confirmation code because I use 2FA with everything.

Nobody in my home uses a VPN, by the way.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Update: I have received an answer from steam support (it was a pretty fast one too), I explained the issue (also mentioned that other people are having this issue, but the agent said absolutely nothing about that, unfortunately) and they confirmed that my account hasn't been compromised, if any of you are concerned about that, turn to steam support and hopefully you'll get as swift as an answer as I did.

Apparently it is due to cookies not being enabled on your browser (which they are enabled, for me), but I use the Steam software and never my browser, so I'm still not sure what causes it.

Edit: If you use steam guard email and don't receive your code when steam asks you for it out of nowhere, close steam entirely and then open it again, you'll receive it.

Edit 2: This also prevents you from using the steam market using your browser! If you were looking for a reason, then look no further! Use the software instead.

From yesterday the "stay logged" works when i close the browser and then open it again, but there is still the problem of
The Market is unavailable for the following reason(s):

Steam is having trouble using your browser's cookie

That still keep me locked out from the market so i hope they're still working to solve that one...
Market still doesn't work sadly.

I cant buy, sell, or trade cards from the steam app, safari browser, or chrome browser. All mobile. The only thing it tells me is that they are having trouble with MY cookies. Have logged out and back in on all the things. Nothings seems to work.
Guys I have a problem about cokkies sating :steam is having problem with your cookies make sure to turn on your cookies and try logging out and logging in again.Does this problem have a solution?
Try using the Steam icon itself on your computer.
Not from the website page.

That works for me.

I dunno if this is true for everyone but since 1 hour ago, after i received a ticket answer, my issue seems finally solved so i recommend everyone to try to FIRST log out then go in a website that is not steam(to be sure a new steam cookie not get written again), once there go in your browser privacy settings and delete ALL cookies with the word steam on it, close browser and relog, insert steam guard and now you should have 7 days waiting (if you still use mail Steam guard) or not according your eventual smartphone Steam guard option, good luck everyone, i just hope this nightmare will not happens again cause was very stressing and painful :shockedsmiley:

I can't believe it but yesterday monday maintenance has recreated the issue of being locked out from market in browsers (any browsers) so, i have to wait once again one week they fix this and then 1 more weeks for the Steam guard, so a total of 2 weeks locked from the market because technicians @ valve still can't figure out how to proper make maintenance ? Other time happened agter a tuesday maintenance, this time happened after a tuesday maintenance, possible that someone could not make them wake up a little and not cause Steam users all these issues ? Being locked out from market (in browsers) is a very annoying thing for me and also for others i'm sure, can this madness stop at some point please ? :steamsad::steamsad::steamsad:

This has been happening to me and for so long that I just figured it was either permanently broken, or designed to be that way.

Apparently they were fast this time fixing the issue that seems solved for now but still there is the problem of the "one week locked out from the market" because of the Mail Steam Guard, i hope that at least those who use the smartphone have to wait less than 24 hours.....Will this be the last time we experience this thing after a weekly maintenance ? or it will happens again and again ? :steamfacepalm:

Also i noticed that i had to log two times(each one with a code request verification), one for the account and another log for the market place, i remember in past that one log was enough for both, seems that now they have separated the two things creating different cookies.....

Happens to me too. There was a point where it happened every time I closed my browser.

And....it happened once AGAIN :steamfacepalm:

The Market is unavailable for the following reason(s):
Steam is having trouble using your browser's cookie.

And once again is not my fault and it happens in different browsers, the only difference is that this time i noticed this on saturday and not after the weekly maintenance, so, after you'll (hopefully) fixing this again, i will wait for my unfair one week lock from the market after this without having any fault from my side, this is being ridiculous now and this shows that you still did not figure out what is causing this because everytime "someone" commit the SAME identic MISTAKE :angrysmiley:
Hi guys, just a quick thing I realized ( my issue is on the client and the browser )

The problems started at the same time I updated windows to 20H2, and also 21H1 didn't help, although I have been trying to turn off defender and smartscreen etc with no improvements so far...

With this said, It turns out I can "fix" the communication errors temporarily with the client,

first by logging in to the client as usual ( just booting it up ), the THEN also clicking on Help, then Steam Support, and finally clicking to sign into steam... then it all works !?

100% steam fault for not changing their login protocols to be windows friendly, and not managing their cookie data so that a regular PC can use it as intended, without all the complex guard stuff

Weekly Maintenance between 22-23 June 2021
Problem persists (in the sense, happened once again):

"The Market is unavailable for the following reason(s):
Steam is having trouble using your browser's cookie"

Every 2 weeks i ve my market in hold for a whole week because this issue (when they will fix it in next days ofc, hopefully) still people at tech maintenance keep making the same mistake again and again and again....Possible we must suffer their fault for the rest of the eternity ? No one will ever intervene to solve this disgrace ? :steamsad:
