I Clicked on a scam link
I received a message coming from whom I thought was a friend of mine. Asked mo to vote for a team for CSGO. The website name is sixtown. It looked like a legit website, but it seemed fishy since it does not appear when i search it on google.

The only button i pressed was to confirm i was not a bot. Anyone else have the same experience as well?

Am I at risk of getting hacked? or someone getting personal information?

if you didn't insert your account info you should be fine, to be sure just scan your pc with antivirus just in case. if you did insert your access info then change them right away

and make a quick scan with antivirus anyways, these days some sites can put malware just by going on with the mouse pointer

Alright, thanks just scanned with Windows Defender, says nothing was found. Got me overthinking though, accessing sites like that will technically show my IP and location?

im not that advanced in these kind of things so i cant really answer but if they didn't add anything on your pc nothing should happen, from what i know the remote control of a machine is directly connected to hidden programs that are being installed on your pc, if your pc doesnt have anything and you exit the site nothing should happen

Those are phishing sites designed to capture your credentials in which they are instantly login-botted into a real client and your account is hijacked. As long as you didn't give away any of these, you're fine.

Change your password as fast as possible.

I just got the exact same thing.

It was fishy since the guy hardly played CSGO and wasn't playing it recently either. Never clicked the link but whoever had access to the account just went silent after I called him out

I was a victim of that scam like 2 weeks ago. This is another way they scams you and hijacks your account. Change pass for steam, activate 2 step auth. Check the log history for the e-mail tied with your steam and change its pass if need as well.
And do not click or trust anyone until you ensure the guy you talk with is your friend indeed!

Some guy on my friendslist who i didnt have any contact with in months just texted me the same and that i should vote for "team Quartz".

Luckily I was sceptical and googled and found this discussion.
I called the guy out and he ignores me now.

Well glad that we both did not fall victim. Just experienced this one time after years of using steam.

Your friends account is probably hijacked which is why it chimed up out of nowhere. Report it as compromised.

As long you didn't type details into the site, nor did you download anything you be fine. Even scanning is good precaution.

Yes they will know your IP, and location, everyone has a public IP, and it can be display where you're from, you can type into Google search for "what my IP" and "where this IP location" and you see what I mean. No you're not in danger if they know that.

Scams happens daily, but as long people can realize of type of scams, and learn about these things, the people become better equipped with knowledge of how to protect themselves against scams online that can happen anywhere.

Yes sadly people fall for them, and rare cases friends you know may fall victim to them too, it's wise to report the account, and inform your friends that also friends with the person about the issue so they get the heads-up so they don't fall for it either. I have about two out of 400+ fell victim, they did recover their account, and I even explain what scams to watch out for so they don't fall for it again.

Knowledge is power.

When you recover account, you want to ensure to right away, deauthorize devices, revoke all API keys, password change, enable 2FA, and readd back your email on the account.

Also if email service uses 2FA it's good idea to have it enable as well.

Also make sure to write down your recovery code in a book incase you lose your 2FA.

Yes it's wise to always read before you click on things, as last thing you want is to be downloading something you were not expecting.
I clicked on a link for the CSGO tournament and clicked a button that says to log in or to link my steam account to log in, but it led me to the same page where I was at before. I didn't enter any info in. Am I good?

As long you didn't type anything into it, and nothing started downloading something, you're fine, go delete cache and cookies on your broswer.

I assume it look like this right?
