Video games with best gunplay and aiming mechanics?

What games do you think have the best gunplay and aiming mechanics? And I mean those things specifically; not what are the best shooters. If you have recommendations, please share, though preferably only games from 2013 and earlier, as my laptop doesn't have the specs for anything more modern than that.

Thats a subjective question. Would help to describe what you like in that regard.

I had yet another disagreement with my brother of a game today. He's trying to get me to like combat in a certain game, even suggested I view a YT video or two to help me get to grips with the combat as that helped him. 3 days we've had the same conversion which is me telling him why I don't like the combat. Not once have I said I found it difficult.

So unless you want poor suggestions a description of what you feel make the best gunplay and aiming mehanics

Admittedly, as I'm not much an expert on gunplay in video games, it's hard to describe it myself. For example, I know I like the gunplay of Mass Effect 2 better than the first game's, but putting my finger on exactly what makes it better is a bit hard. It just feels better. Maybe it feels like firing has more weight, or it might be the cover system that's smoother, or it might be how the enemies react to being fired at and being hit, or just a whole bunch of such small reasons altogether. I would say I'd prefer a third person shooter over an FPS, if it helps a bit.

Still, I did say please recommend what you believe to be games with satisfying gunplay. Anything would be appreciated. And, basically, as I said, games from 2013 and earlier.

Sorry if my explanation is a bit scarce in details. I really appreciate taking the time to help me. I've just had a craving for a good shooter recently.

Sniper Elite has extremely realistic gun mechanics, but they may not be the type you're looking for, as often people use the word "gunplay" to mean "run and gun play", rather than "accurate to real world effects" guns.
