Xbox controller paddles not listed under Steam Controller Configurator

So I've done pretty much as much tinkering and research as I can with no luck in fixing the issue.

I have a PowerA Fusion Pro 2 Xbox controller that comes with the paddle buttons that I've seen the steam UI have the configuration option for, however when using the Steam Controller Configurator displays my xbox controller as an Xbox One Controller:, instead of an elite controller which I believe would be the one that Steam recognizes to have the paddles.



Stuff I've tried:

• Disable all Controller Support Options (IE PS4 Support etc)
• Exit Steam and unplug the controller
• Open the config.vdf file stored on your computer
• By default it is located in - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\config.vdf
• Search for "SDL_GamepadBind" and delete everything underneath it
• Save the file
• Start Steam and plug in the controller


Deleted the data under:

Steam\userdata\1234567\config\controller_configs

(Random note about deleting the data, I'm assuming there must be some Cloud Data storage for the custom configs created as none of those being deleted completely removed my custom config layout, if there's data stored locally somewhere else that might help my problem)


I'm also not running into the issue where I'm over looking the X A B Y config options, and I've rebooted after installing/reinstalling the Xbox Extended Feature Support.


In a different thread a Valve person stated that specifically the Xbox elite series one controller won't have the remap functionality for the paddles, I'm not sure if this might be what I'm running into with my controller of a different brand, or if this specific controller of mine isn't officially supported yet. Idk if there';s a way to force Steam to recognize it as an Elite controller, I've seen other people with issues where a PSN controller was seen as an Xbox controller.

After further testing it appears the paddles are always bound in the device to something so while we can read the state of the paddles it's not super useful because the bindings of the ABXY will also fire. We will be limiting this new Series 2 controller which can be independently remapped.



Any insight or direction for resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Yes, by buying an official xbox elite series 2 controller. I never could figure out the root cause for the fusion controller as there were many potentials.

AFAIK it's because these other controllers don't expose the buttons for usage, they can only be used 'internally' within the programmed functions of the controller. You can't map these anywhere

For anybody looking for a solution: the back paddles on the PowerA Fusion Pro 2 are programmable through the controller itself, not the Steam UI:

1. Hold the Program button (on the underside, located between the trigger locks) down for 3 seconds. The light on the topside will start to blink.
2. Press the button you want to assign to a paddle. The light will start to flash quickly.
3. Press the paddle you want controlling the button you pressed. The light will shine steadily.

Repeat for each of the paddles.
