Eliminate those annoying Skips & Gaps in your Steam Downloads

QOS=Ethernet/Router/Wi-Fi Quality of Service setting.

Getting slow Steam downloads? Gaps in the download where it just stops for seconds or even minutes on a regular basis?

To fix that and get a solid download stream then do this: (this fix will work only if the issue is your network settings and not Steam).

In Windows go to settings/Network&Internet/ethernet. Find options on the right hand panel and select change adapter options.

Once there find your ethernet network device and right click on it. Select properties. In the window that pops up find QoS Packet Scheduler and uncheck it. Voila - solid as a rock STEAM downloads. Well - that's what worked for me anyway - YMMV...

Why does this work? What QoS does is make sure that all users on your network get their fair share of bandwidth - in my experience it doles out bandwidth even when it really doesn't need to.

Mine has been turned off for the past month with no complaints at all from my son who is a heavy MP game player and is on my router's Wi-Fi connection. Wife barely uses the internet so no complaints from her. I now get a solid and continuous download stream. In addition what used to be an average of 50 to 140 Mbs I now average 140 to 220 Mbs. I pay for 300 <shrug> used to get that but that pretty much died when the covid thing went down last year in March.

So - if ya have issues with the constant interruptions in download flow from Steam try turning off QoS.

Oh - and make sure you turn it off in your router too. Instructions on how to do that are different for every brand of router so you'll have to look it up for yours.

If you're a Wi-Fi user you'll have to get with whomever takes care of the network you're on (usually Dad or Mom if you're young) and get them to turn it off on the router.

He need cable, Why because he need lowest Latency per packet and many small packets going into game server or whoever HOST the game.

This is fact, afaik, there has never been a Wifi connection that has beat a patch cable / fiber next gen Router with fiber port's ( and there never will be. )

Most have a router switch port, in the old says there was switch with store and forward option, not sure i have seen such on a router in many years, but such was the way in the old days.

In fact , why steam user is on wifi, then they are gamers, maybe we should not be nice to such ppl anymore, Latency is your problem and you need to understand other steam user with is also make Latency worse into a game server , its inhere, many steam user only see onw connection and thast actual a problem.

And thast wahy if you use wifi then you are casual gamer, that only make connection worse with more lag in whatever game, MS matter for all players into game server, we dont play alone do we.

it's every gamers own problem to have lowest Latency as possible.

Ask any IT dude, or they dont know what best network is.
last thinghy WIFI is a end-custom gear and connection solutions, ISP and steam dont use WIFI for game traffic.thats fiber or patch cable.

Ohh anf be happy i and other bother with it, or ppl will keep using wifi , and we cant stop you anyway. and be happy we cant or you will already have been shutdown and kicked of them game server. ( i could also say Congratolation wifi users, you make all gameserrver game more laggy. ) i do not lie any experience game know this.

Hotspot and other worst posible connection is seen before in Online games and they have consequence. i have seen ppl with 4 sec delay being allowed to play, what a joke.
