Cannot make game shortcuts.
I cannot make a desktop shortcut for the game "Phasmaphobia" and I think other games too. I go into Library on steam, and click create shortcut on games, and it doesn't do anything.
I think this is caused by my steam common files being on a secondary drive, split from everything else on the other drive. I did this because the first drive was full.
Idk if that's actually causing the issue or what, but
Is there a way to fix it not making a shortcut?

So I definitely think that alternate place for the games kinda thing is causing the shortcut ♥♥♥♥, I just don't understand why it would.. or how I can fix it
To fix it, you need to undo everything Steam Mover did, then create a new library folder the proper way - via Steam - and then move the individual games the proper way - via Steam.

Go to the local files for the game, find the .exe for the game, right click it and create the shortcut there (you may need to scroll down to "New" and create a "new shortcut" if you are running Windows 10, it's weirdly set up).

Yes, I can do that, but this causes phasmaphobia to not be connected to steam when playing.... so obviously not doing that, though I did figure that out myself first hand and try.
plus that still doesn't fix the fact steam isnt creating shortcuts for me :p

Maybe you should Contact steam support with it, im not kidding you, people have lost them through time, and whatever that is to lost path to moved content, its a hell to fix 100 or 1000 of games.

I'm sure people did not have 1000 of games in the past, but now they do even seen someone with 4000 games. im sure all can agree , no matters how easy it is for 1 game to fix shortcut, that is not simple then its 1000+

I dont care if steam make a dump of steam game folder at desktop and make every shortcut there as option. so you can rebuild or whatever it is you are doing, and just because i suggested this dont mean steam will do it or fix it then it has been this way over 10+ years, and maybe thats part of the problem.

ps.
call it rebuild of steam shortcut or recheck current added. or remake all, or both as options

Steam "shortcuts" are, in reality, URIs. The shortcut URL for Phasmophobia would be:
steam://rungameid/739630
Try manually creating a shortcut with that URI and run it. If you get an error or nothing at all, then there's a deeper issue.

That's not true. You go into the common folder and copy the application executable to your desktop as a shortcut. You can run the game from there and it will be connected to Steam because it's the same file (albeit a copy) that your Steam library uses to execute the game from the core file architecture.

I've started phasmaphobia using a desktop shortcut i made and each time it said error not correct to steam on the whiteboard. Also steam doesn't show me as playing any game...

Not necessarily. Only games that have Steamworks components directly baked in act as you describe. Take, for example, Starbound: If it is run from executable, even when still in the default library location, it will not have access to Steam features at all. If launched via a Steam URI or via the library, then it has access to Steam features. In the end, functionality varies from game to game.

how do i make a custom shortcut using the url
Right-click on your desktop and hit New > Shortcut. Then, paste in the Steam URI from my previous post rather than selecting a file. Windows will recognize it as an "internet shortcut" - this is intended. Then name it whatever you want and hit finish and run it. If it runs, then you have issues with Steam as you guessed. If it doesn't run, then there's something else likely going on.

EDIT: It should be noted that creating a Steam URI shortcut in this fashion will not link a proper icon. In this circumstance that's fine as we're only manually creating the shortcut to see if the URIs are being handled properly in the first place.

I mean, this worked. But it doesn't have the phasmaphobia picture. etc. idk why steam is just not working not giving me shortcuts though...

Alright, then that rules out issues with app defaults interfering. Previously you mentioned that you have Steam's "common files" on a secondary drive. Could you elaborate?
https://prnt.sc/1a7s490

notice how the folders are like shortcut icons or something. it's using that drive for shortcutting those games to the other drive i guess.

the other drive folder:

my steam downloads thing looks like this, I used this guide pretty much:

I used this program to move my games to the other drive folder

So you've manually moved the game folders rather than using the install mover that's already baked into Steam. That's why it won't create shortcuts: you've effectively broken your library.

steam doesn't have an install mover. that's just for where it installs stuff next.
