Do I need to remove my 2 step verification before i get my phone repaired. (It's their policy to wipe all data on customer's phones when they do repairs)

Hi,
So tomorrow I will be giving my phone to Samsung for a battery replacement and it is their policy to wipe all data on my phone after they have finished the replacement so I was just wondering whether I need to remove 2 step verification on my phone and enable it again when the I get it back. OR can i just leave 2 step verification on and transfer it even though my phone has been reseted by doing the "Please help, I no longer have access to my Mobile Authenticator codes."

Also, if you use 2FA with any other services (like Google Authenticator), you should unlink those too.

Authy is one of the few 2FA tools that is safe in such a scenario because it has a master password/backup feature.

In the article steam said "If you're keeping your phone number, then you don't need to do anything in advance to prepare. Once you get your new phone, you can transfer your authenticator to the new phone using the steps in the answer for the previous question above."

I will still have my same phone number. Do you think its necessary to remove it or should I still do it even though i will have my same phone number just in case.

I just want my account to be still protected while my phone is getting repaired even though i won't have access to it.

This. Treat it like just getting a new phone with the same number.

The only precaution I would take is to copy down the backup code before sending the phone away just in case you have to authenticate yourself in the meantime.

It's also their policy to replace any and all parts that aren't "as new". If it's under warranty, no problem. If you're expecting to pay for a battery replacement and they come back with a quote for battery, screen and back panel, problem.
