Steam "Javascript Confirm"; please help me! Am I infected?
So I was playing Read Dead 2, and i was using the steam browser. I was looking up Red Dead 2 cheat codes, and i click on the first website. And after browsing for a little. Just seemingly, I was taken to this "Windows Security Issue" website thing. And i was panicing at the time, cause i didnt know what was going on. I read a little on the thing, saying something about Malware, blah blah.
I immediately shut down Read Dead 2. And this box saying "Javascript Confirm" box appears
It was asking if I wanted to reload/quit a website page. I never encountered this before. I clicked cancel. So the box kept reappearing. I was very scared, and still am. I was looking up on the internet looking for answers on what this could be. I became very confused. So my logical thing to do, was to shut down steam. So i clicked steam on the top left if the steam app. and clicked "exit"
Relaunched steam, and the problem disappeared. But i am still worried on what just happened.
If anyone could help me, or inform me on what just happened. Please do so :steamsad:

Best thing you can do to be safe is get a free program like Malwarebytes and run a scan. You're probably fine, those sites are a pain however.
Thanks man for the quick reply! Running a security scan rn!
Lesson to learn here:

Stop searching for "popular game cheats" because that's ... where those infections come from. They know people want to cheat, and prey on that gullibility of 'look at the stuff you can do'.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to do. I wasn't looking to download hacks to cheat. I was talking about cheat codes. Like certain little codes you can put in the singleplayer menu. I beaten the game, and i was getting bored. So i just wanted to fool around with stuff like infinite ammo and such.
I apologize if I misunderstood your message. But thanks for the advise I guess. I'll be more careful when searching around the internet.
Status Update: Thank you everyone for giving advise and assisting me on my troubles. I ran a full scan, on my computer. It said I was fine, and I ran CCleaner just to be extra safe. So I would believe I am in the clear. Thank you all for helping me! Bless you all! :lunar2019piginablanket::lunar2019coolpig:
