Removing all discussion posts
Is there any way to completely remove all forum history from my account? I don't really want my silly posts from years ago sitting around anymore. Can this be done by a moderator?

I know I can just do it manually, but it'll take wayyy too much time.

You'd have to delete posts one by one, in threads that are not locked. People have asked support, but it's not something they do.

In addition, one must note that personal data need not be objective. Subjective information such as opinions, judgements or estimates can be personal data.

Steam Privacy Policy:

3.3 Other Data You Explicitly Submit

We will collect and process Personal Data whenever you explicitly provide it to us or send it as part of communication with others on Steam, e.g. in Steam Community Forums, chats, or when you provide feedback or other user generated content.

If anything this backups up my point, but for the sake of not drawing in any more attention to this topic and its inevitable lock, I'll rather wait on the support response.

if they don't want to remove the post content they should at least remove the alias used and the steamid identifier that made the post, and replace it with "removed user post" or something.
You can delete your post yourself, that'll remove it from public view. And you can refrain from posting things you don't want others to associate with you.

This was in regards to locked topics / posts or even quoted posts.
I am well aware of the fact you are able to delete a comment, post and threads, i might seem new but i am not that new to the steam forums.

It wouldn't be that hard to create a script yourself that deletes anything that is not locked.
perhaps look into making a script, if you have a lot of posts, threads, comments you want gone.

In most reviews of the question, it seems the answer isn't cut and dry. Judging from other articles and companies, it depends whether or not content is tied to an account (ie: a registered user) in which case it is considered personal data because it is tied to information which identifies the author of the content.

It can get complicated, ie: What is done in the instance that another user has quoted content, trying to parse those messages [on Steam at least] would be tedious.

Interesting read for those who are unbiased:
https://law.stackexchange.com/questions/32361/does-a-user-have-the-right-to-request-their-forum-posts-deleted

According to this conversation, it's not within your rights to have your posts removed, but it is within your rights to revoke your account from them, which essentially is the same thing, to me anyway. Whether that means you actually have to delete your account or request support unlink them from your account is unclear to me, either way, Steam support has made it clear that it's not something they do.

You can already delete your account, in which case your profile is blanked and your username reverts to the SteamID64, exactly what is described in your first link.

Yep, that removes any personal identifiable information as there is no link back to the person and the post themselves can't identify a user

not really because valve already does this when the update the username on permanent deleting your account.
so they update the column field in the db, so obviously if they are able to do it then without creating any issues. I understand that in the case of the column field for the alias it gets a bit trickier as you are not deleting your account but you could just add another column which field should serve that person for comments.

but in any case, why are they not allowing you to delete anything you want then instead? why should a "locked" thread prevent you from altering the content in it or delete it.
You are perfectly able to delete anything you want if it is not locked or if a comment you made on a user profile a long time ago is no longer your friend and made their profile private.

makes no sense to me, that they don't just allow the deletion of post, topic, comment whatever else can't be made from that https://steamcommunity.com/my/commenthistory page, so you wont have to ask someone for permission to delete it yourself.

That says they will process personal data you include in your posts, screenshots, images, support requests, etc, not that the whole thing containing said personal data becomes personal data.

Every post needs an owner who’s accountable for that post. The exception, if you delete your Steam account, then the name displayed on your existing posts will show [deleted].

I partially agree with it. if a post is trolling, defamatory or breaks the general guidelines for the forum that post should be locked if a moderator deems it as such.

but that certain post should be locked not everything inside of that topic, you could lock the topic and still allow the other users to delete their posts if they wanted to.
(nobody but that user that got their post locked did anything wrong.)

just because you wrote this post, does not give it more or less credibility, the post stands on its own merits, so if you were to replace your own name with "deleted" it doesn't change the content of it.

You're right. I'm just too ignorant to understand these laws.
