What is PvEvP?

Lately I've been hearing a lot of games being PvEvP. What hell is that? I know what PvE is, I know what PvP is, but what is PvEvP, and how does it differ from PvE and PvP?

I know, I've read that little discussion and didn't get me any wiser. Makes it sounds like PvP, so I still don't know the difference between PvEvP and PvP. That topic is related to one specific game, and I'm more interested in a more general explanation, not specific to one game or genre.

Think of something like a typical MMO, where you can fight enemy NPCs and other players.

The difference is, there's some E, so AI, to kill on the side, not just other players. This isn't specific to a game, just like PvE isn't specific to a game.

You can ignore it. PvEvP is generally understood as "PvP first, some PvE on the side". If you're more into co-operative multiplayer (like I am), PvE is the real deal and PvEvP won't scratch the same itch.

PvEvP is more interesting if you're into PvP first and foremost, but want to spice that up a bit.

Many competative (=PvP) games have separate co-op modes as well.
