Your "friend" needs to learn patience.
If someone tells me "in 3 hours", and 1 hour later he still says "I told you, in 3 hours!" then it's actually in 4 hours. A time like that is always a "countdown".
If Steam can't tell, then they shouldn't try to. "Up to 24 hours" might be an option, but again, you should be sure that this is true, or at least very likely.
This someone repeating what he said, as a reminder to you, does not add extra hours. I don't understand your thought process.
