Disabling auto-update for a specific game
Hello! 🙂

I did a very quick and lazy search with the search feature here and couldn't find my answer.

Is there a way to disable auto-update, even when I launch the game, for a specific game? I want to stay in "Online" Mode, so switching to "Offline Mode" isn't what I want to do. 🙂

I'm playing No Man's Sky version 1.13 and I don't want the game to update itself, yet I want to remain online for other games in my Steam library.

Thanks!

No. Steam was conceived as an automatic updater and it never left this prerogative.
The only way to play previous versions of the game is to have the game developer take steps to let you do so.

Thanks for the clear answer.

What steps? I suggest you are talking about them using more than one branch; is that it? Thanks again.

No, they don't have to use more than one branch, archiving previous binaries is absolutely enough.
Those steps would involve uploading said previous binaries as accessible betas. Somewhat of an abuse of the beta system, but hey, if it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

You lost me at "uploading said previous binaries as accessible betas". 😅

What does it mean for the user like me? Do they need to download a second version of the game or it is selectable in an in-game menu?

Have you ever seen Steam's beta functionality? I ain't talking about the Steam client beta, I mean game betas.

Not "like that", more like "yes, this is it".

The feature already exists - it is version choice via branches that the developer can set up.

Dead Cells - Motion Twin - https://ibb.co/fFZ6WfF

Hearts of Iron IV - Paradox - https://ibb.co/6Rhy605
