Hacking possibly but Steam accounts don't get hacked. They frequently get hijacked because people give their username, password and guard code to phishing sites.

Personally I wouldn't change my profile name to match as that's giving away the first part of data. If you're using an old password or using elsewhere at the same time it's possible someone will try to gain access. Maybe even get lucky with a password. Won't get past Steam guard so worst thing that could happen in that regard would emails from Steam telling you someone tried accessing the account.........that'd get rather annoying fast

Also keep in mind....

If both your account name and password are secret, that's two pieces of the puzzle that a hijacker has to get to get into your account.

If you reveal your account name, they only need one piece of the puzzle to get into your account. And if you have a common password, or a password that was revealed in a leak of another website, it makes it a LOT easier for them to get in.

(Edit: Of course, if you have Steam Guard on, that makes it harder too, as they have to have access to your phone or your email)
