Game Icons Changed to Generic Icons
I moved desktop game shortcuts into sub-folders and several games have since changed their icons to a meaningless generic icon. Why is Steam changing icons for my launchers in the first place? Can I organize my desktop the way I want it to be organized, or does everything have to be on the desktop?

Then you moved the shortcut you change path to it.

May not even be Steam. Windows has changed or failed to load icons on and off for years. Check it's pointing to the correct location

Supafly nailed it. It was Windows. Because Steam launches a game via a url reference, Windows appears to have replaced the user's/Steam custom icon with a generic WWW icon. The cure, unfortunately, is to replace the Steam launcher with a direct shortcut to the exe. Not a big deal; if I want to play with Steam extensions, I just have to launch from Steam.

You are so wrong all the way. steam is a app just like all other app in windows OS.

rest is a steam issue , and steam screw up , and lack of steam devs that want to fix it.
it has been this way sense steam way and lost icon and shortcut issue, and nothing has change.

This is not a Windows issue or shortcut issue , its steams way and thats the problem here.
its has been this way all the way back at windows XP with steam client.
maybe user was to nice back then or dont know, that still dont make it right then all this is steam itself.

ps.
proof is never had a icon issue with none steam game ( end of debat )
and thats the problem here people start belive what other think is right, and not steam has done this screw up so long and people start think they are not responsible for it.

and i dont care if a user move shortcut , its still steamway and lack of rebuild of it's missing content. .icon location
