How do I block all outgoing Steam connections on my PC?
Hello,
I want to block all outgoing Steam connections with the internet on my PC (using Windows 10 Pro). I have tried using the Windows Firewall, by defining outgoing rules. I have already blocked these files/paths from accessing the internet with the Windows firewall:
C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\steam.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64
C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\

None of these rules worked.

Before anyone asks: I use the antivirus software Avira but it's set up to let Windows manage the firewall, so I don't think it's messing anything up here.

I also read somewhere that you can use NetLimiter to block Steam. So that's what I did. I blocked everything Steam related that NetLimited could find:

Maybe I'm missing a process that doesn't have "steam" in its name but is used by Steam?

There also seems to be a way to do it with the hosts file, but I couldn't find any clear information on what exactly has to be put in there.

I don't want to block Steam in my router, since I live in a shared dorm and my housemates need to have access to Steam. Disabling my connection entirely is also not an option, I still want to have internet access.

Does anyone know how to do this or have an idea what I'm doing wrong with the firewall or NetLimiter?

Wouldn't it just be easier to put Steam in offline mode?

why do you need our help to lookup steam ports ( im sorry if this is to obvious for rest of us and that why i reply so you learn to do that next time with whatever app name and issue. )

ps.
i did not say you cant have issue with the app, not the first time a network engineer caught a security app not work as intended. ( even seen configuration so screwed up that it make no sense or bad translation and some option is reversed. )

Because I simply did not know that that is an option to block the connection. You can't assume that everyone on Steam is super tech savvy. I block these with the firewall, yes? Is there a risk that other applications use these ports?

Don't block ports, block processes/binaries.
