BUG REPORT: My wishlist fails to open
My Steam wishlist has over 100 games in it. When I try to open it, loading time is over 5 minutes and then it has the basic wishlist screen but it says "Your wishlist has 0 games in it, but there are none matching your search criteria." So I can't view or manage my wishlist anymore. I've tried exit/restart Steam, tried accessing Wishlist page from the main Store page, from my account page, from several specific games' store pages. Every time it is the same, it is just broken. It was working yesterday, today there was an update to Steam and now I can't use my wishlist anymore. And then I click the "Help" button or the "Steam Support" button and they both take me to a list of FAQ and help articles with NO WAY to contact support to open a new ticket, just circular back to the FAQ list even from the "How to contact Steam Support" article's link that says "to contact support visit this website..."

If a Steam support rep is actually monitoring these, please help reactivate my wishlist!

OK so this is obviously a problem but what worked for me for now is:

I went to the store to see if I could add an item to my wishlist and I could so I did

then I tried my wishlist again and everything is now there. all my items show.

Edit: also, I knew my items were there somewhere because even when it was showing zero items in my wishlist the number of my whishlisted items showed correctly (43 for me) in the upper rh area of that screen. It simply did not show the names or pictures.

2nd Edite: ok it's back to "broken" again but until it's fixed I guess I need to do this each time I want to view my wishlist.

Found the problem. A stupid "Windows Update" was pending system reboot. EVERY time these things come out they mess up my entire computer, and I get ZERO notification that it is installing the Windows Update. But, got that installed and rebooted and now I'm good to go again. But these Windows Updates have been a thorn in my side since Windows XP! They need to institute a better way to handle these updates without temporarily paralyzing my entire computer system. So I'm going to write a nasty letter to Microsoft later.

To anyone else having this issue, go to your Windows start menu and type "WIndows Update" and it should show you the "Check for Windows Updates" tool near the top of the list. Open that, tell it to check for updates if it doesn't already tell you it has one you need to deal with. Download and install any updates it finds, then restart your computer. Hopefully this will solve the problem (along with several other problems most likely) so you can get back to what you were doing.

You had me excited for a minute as I indeed did have a win 10 update. However, after accepting said update my Wishlist issue remains. Thnx tho.

OK Here's what I did and it now has worked 6 times in a row.

  • First like I said before I went to the store and added a game to my wish list
  • Then I clicked on Store/Wishlist and all items were there but that only worked once
  • So I went back to the game I added in the store and clicked to remove it viola back again
  • Rinse & repeat now it has opened as it always has each and every time (x6)

So for now it's ok but you'll forgive me if I have my doubts that it is now fixed
It is just steam server issues. The wishlist frequently stops and starts. Be patient and it will eventually start working all on its own.

No tricks needed. Reloading a page 5 times by adding and removing an item does absolutely nothing. If you knew how a website functions, or specifically steams wishlist, you would know that.

The wishlist will probably always have issues like this. Steam has bigger things to worry about.

As of writing this, i can view everyones wishlist in this thread that is not private without any troubles.

Absolutely correct about being patient. Forgot about this problem already as it has little effect on why I sign on to Steam.

Absolutely incorrect about Wishlisting a new game. It works and you only need to do it once per attempt to look at your wishlist. I verified it 5 times at the time of my last post. Just checked again and it works.

This too shall pass and if it does not we'll live.

Theoretically it should not make a difference as when loading the wishlist it still requests the information the same way it would if you add a game. What could be happening though is a caching issue where adding a game updates the cache but other than that, loading the wishlist after adding a game to it should make no difference.

Regardless it still requests the data for the wishlist the same way no matter what you do.

The wishlist works by saving the appids to your account. When you load the wishlist, the client requests the data for each game for your wishlist.

Without that data that it needs to pull from the database, the games will exist but will not show any information on the page. So when your browser asks steam for this data, if steam is having issues at that time, it might not give your browser the information it has requested thus a broken page.

Adding a new game to your wishlist adds another appid steam needs to get data for which is only called upon when you load your wishlist.

The same process takes place no matter how many games you have or if you add or remove a game.

Look under the network tab in developer tools in chrome when loading your wishlist and you will see something called "p=0, p=1, p=2" etc. That is the data the wishlist requires to display itself correctly. If that fails to download, your wishlist will not display.

This is my thinking. again, it's only a temporary way for me to view my wishlist whenever I can't. works for me until it's fixed. but like I said, not the end of the world.

Your method is interesting. Perhaps there is something else going on that i am not aware of.
